SHU walked over Walsh's Maine Bears by about 29
I think the Pirates open with the Johnnies and without Whitehead of course so the Red Storm figure to win that one.

Yeah that's even worse mike...the Friars have never been lucky with feet
Seems to me that Nova, Hoyas and Johnnies should be ncaa bound.
I haven';t seen much of Xavier...anybody have an opinion about how good they are?

I've seen Xavier several times and I do think they have talent.
Bluitt is a freshman, but he's the real deal.
They can score and have several serious 3 point threats (Miles Davis for one). Stainbrook and Reynolds for bigs.
Xavier didn't play smart down the stretch at Auburn, and that cost them the game, but hey...
As of today I'd go with:
1. Nova 2. Georgetown 3. Xavier 4. St. John's 5. Providence (maybe flip St. John's and P.C. if their defense continues to improve).

Seton Hall’s Whitehead Could Miss 4 Weeks With Stress Fracture (UPDATED) Zagsblog
Seton Hall freshman guard Isaiah Whitehead could miss up to four weeks with a stress fracture in his right foot, head coach Kevin Willard said Saturday in his radio interview with Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin.
That would put Whitehead, the Big East Preseason Rookie of the Year, back in late January.
Whitehead had an MRI on his right foot Wednesday, and the result of the test confirmed that he has a stress fracture of the second and third metatarsal bones. Doctors will evaluate Whitehead’s foot weekly.
“There’s not an easy replacement for a kid like Isaiah Whitehead,” Willard said Saturday. “You’re gonna have a drop-off.”
Whitehead will miss Wednesday’s Big East opener against St. John’s.
“They’re pretty much the complete opposite of us,” Willard said. “They’re older, they’re veterans.”
He added that he thought St. John’s senior D’Angelo Harrison was the “best player in the league,” and that junior big man Chris Obekpa is a “difference-maker.”
Whitehead has been an immediate impact player for the Pirates. The true freshman is second in scoring – trailing only preseason All-Big East Honorable Mention member Sterling Gibbs – with 11.9 points per game, tops in assists and steals at 3.4 and 1.3 per game respectively. He also accounts for 4.5 rebounds per game, third best behind Angel Delgado and Brandon Mobley.
Whitehead chose Seton Hall precisely because he wanted to stay home and help bring the program back to prominence. They haven’t made the Big Dance since 2006.
In a recent interview with SNY.tv, Whitehead expanded what would it mean to help lead Seton Hall back.
“Oh, it would mean everything to me, just coming here and bringing the program back with my team and just winning as much as possible,” he said.

Whitehead has same injury Sharaud Curry had a few years back. Might be longer than 2-3 weeks. Pretty sure Curry suffered a second fracture while rehabbing back from the first. Big loss for SHU.

Thanks both Mike's
We have an amazing opportunity to strike early with Creighton and then Marquette and Butler on the road before the strong Hoyas come calling.

I think they are solid but they appear to be a little soft defensively this year. Although St. Johns has no depth I think they are better and we are better than X this year. I would probably put X fifth best in the conversation. On a side note I've noticed that Larry Austin has not been playing very much this year.

The Johnnies in a walk-over today against Tulane
Sir Dom Pointer 24 pts and 7 steals etc etc he's the catalyst for them right now
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 12m12 minutes ago Steve Lavin has accomplished one of his goals - St. John's is nationally relevant heading into conf. play. 11-1 after rout of Tulane
Terrence Payne @terrence_payne 9m9 minutes ago We’ll get a better idea about St. John’s in the coming weeks. At Seton Hall on #BENYE, Butler, Villanova and at Providence in two-week span

Well I was trying to get a feel for Marquette today and their new big phenom Fischer...but their game against Morgan St is a slughter and un-watchable.
The kid looks like a decent passer...I will have to wait and see him against a real opponent.

Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 37m37 minutes ago Marquette moves to 4-0 with Luke Fischer in the lineup. 6-11 big man tallies 15, 9, + 3 blocks vs. Morgan State. Golden Eagles now 8-4.

Xavier beats FGC today.
I was pleasantly surprised because they never did show the offensive juggernaut we have read about....they could not crush a bum club this day.
Perhaps it was indifference in advance of conference play.
Whatever...gotta keep Kris Dunn on the floor to win games...that's the constant the rest of the way
