7 THINGS WE LEARNED FROM PROVIDENCE'S WIN OVER NELSON BASKETBy Anthony Finucane — Aug 16, 2014 8:38:00 AM www.coxhub.com/articles/7-things-we-learned-from-providences-win-over-nelson-basketOn the Friars second night in Italy, they faced Nelson Basket and won decidedly 131-50. The outcome was never really in doubt as the Friars were clearly the more talented group. So what did we learn from the game? 1. The Friars have an abundance of ball handlers this year. Rodney Bullock, LaDontae Henton, Kyron Cartwight and Junior Lomomba all took the reigns at different points in the game. This is a striking difference from last year where Bryce Cotton handled the ball almost exclusively. After the game, Coach Cooley remarked to the Nelson Basket coach that they were trying out this new system with the new personnel. It showed. And it was impressive. 2. Played in a small gymnasium in a small town, the game’s outcome was never up for debate. From the opening whistle the Friars dominated, but what was good to see was the amount of professionalism the players showed even in the face of such a lopsided contest as they didn’t gloat or showboat and proved to be good ambassadors for American basketball in Europe. 3. Coach Brian Blaney was very vocal on the sidelines and looked comfortable running the show as Cooley appeared to take a step back and let his assistant get some hands on training in an exhibition game. 4. Rodney Bullock and LaDontae Henton on the court at the same time is going to give Big East coaches nightmares. 5. The Friars won by 81 with just of half their roster. 6. Dogs are welcome inside the gymnasium. 7. People still smoke an awful lot of cigarettes around here.

Pasta Ball...good workouts - some encouraging signs as they workout vs. weak opponents. Nothing wrong with that but beyond getting some pt for a few new guys, there is no need to get all pumped up...Cox reporter is amusing to say the least.

Mike Hopkins #pcbb @pcbb1917 41m Friar starters in game 2: Lomomba, Bullock, Harris, Henton, Desrosiers. #pcbb
Looks to me that Lomomba has started at the point with Henton at the 2, Bullock at the 3 and Harris the 4. Anyone see it differently.

If Dex can teach his german shepherd to bark in italian, than I should be able to figure out the translation...:
From the NCAA comes the Providence, the preseason of the Tiber takes the track.
Directly by the College Basketball stars and stripes 18 and 19 August, the Providence will be at Paladonati for a double appointment. The reigning champions of the Big East Conference - Season 2013-14 (NCAA Division I ) will be in Rome to contest two friendly matches, the first Monday 18:20:30 against Perugia, and then conclude the program Tuesday, 19 - 19:00 against the Blue, Orange.
In their history the "Friars" have made two appearances in Final Four NCAA, in 1973 and 1987, with four former players and coaches, Dave Gavitt, John Thompson, Rick Pitino, and Lenny Wilkens in Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Here are the boys available to coach and Cooley for this two days of basketball capitolina:
ROSTER
call of the NBA Draft 2015 and noted the special in this dual appointment; Ladonate Henton, ala of great talent who last season was traveling at an average of 14 points per game. The Tiber instead will be represented by students from the first team plus some Under. The preseason Tiber, in addition to the front of the market where there is the arrival of Matthew Perna class 97 by Sam that will strengthen the roster of the U19 - A MAXIMUM will continue with the official gathering meeting scheduled for 27 August. Throughout the period of september, before the debut homely the 28/9 at home against the Petriana, blue, orange will be engaged in a series of friendly match:
6/9 Tiber vs Village Don Bosco 9-11 Tiber vs Petriana 13/9 Tiber vs Sora BK 18/9 Petriana vs Tiber 19/9 Eurobasket vs Tiber
Program thickets for the beginning of this season, but meanwhile we are waiting for you the 18/8 and 19/8 to Paladonati for an event by true fans of this sport.

Anyone see it differently. I have never seen Bullock play, but from what I hear/read, it sounds like he is a better defensive player than Henton. If that is true, I can see Bullock and Henton sharing the SG and SF positions defensively, with the man they are responsible for dependent on the matchup presenting them. I do not believe that Harris can defend good SGs, and I am not confident that Henton can lock up on quicker SGs. Here is where I would be interested in reading Mrs. Blair's analysis....

But since you start off with saying you've never seen Bullock play, it seems to this lowly poster, that it is a stretch to say Bullock "sounds like he is a better defensive player than Henton" On what is that based? If true, then your theory may well work, but I will wait and see Bullock PLAY first.
This is where I would be interested in how Walk will insult and condescend.......

Fair enough. Reports from those "in the know" appear to be positive. I do agree that it's a good idea to temper expectations...
