Butler is obviously trying to cut off the head of the Friars concentrating on Cotton.
If Batts was little more in control he'd have about 12 points himself, missing some bunnies really bad.
Dunham is schooling them so far, need to do a better job defending him.
Joey saying Batts needs to finish off the inside shots he is getting.
Rebounding has been good, keeping them in the game.
Need that small crowd to get loud this second half and be that sixth man.

Batts was a man among boys inside tonight.
Nice win.14-5 and 4-2.Nice.
Dunn really into it on the bench was sweet to see also.
Dunham is a nice player.Butler will not be an easy game for anyone.

No easy games in this league
I was wondering what adjustments Cooley/staff would make to get Cotton scoring and shut down Dunham...whatever it was it worked
Batts made up for a poor first half with an amazing second half.
Fortune made some key shots, but that offset some of his questionable passes..
Bit worried about the foul trouble Harris has been getting into
Teddy comes in again to do a good defensive job on Dunham

We looked like Pitt used to look when they always seemed to beat us up in the last 7 minutes.
Good solid win.

Thought our newly FOX dubbed "Iron Man" lineup was simply better than Butler's from the beginning despite the early minutes back and forth and obvious talent of young Dunham.
We have talent here. Tough kids who play well as a team.
NICE... Guess we can now, at least be called 'respectable'- at best be called dangerous.
Been saying that all along even as Dunn's demise forced a change and our depth disappeared. We may be a turned ankle away from "Oh Well" but this is unexpected and fun. Think it might be 'safe' to say this staff knows what they are doing as they squeeze solid play from these 6-7 kids?
All have stepped up but it really has been the amazing ability of Cotton to somehow morph his game into play as an effective PG that has brought this about. He is why we have all these kids in the flow making us 'respectable' as in do not overlook; do not take for granted. The no quit attitude and hustle along with Cotton's impressive adaptation has brought this improbable success - his play has been beyond exceptional - and nobody has really been able to shut him down.
Batts is busting his butt out there - 17 rebounds speaks of that effort; now if he can just slow down his finish (deep breath maybe?)he could recapture much of what he showed last year. Still, this team will go as far as his hustle takes us despite some awkward moments, I will take a butt busting hustler any day.
*
Best for me to leave the schedule/scoreboard prognostication to others - never something I am any good at nor do I care much about. Sure it is trite to say 'one game at a time' yet with this team, 'iron-man' lineup and every game situation it really is true - maybe trite but truly fitting this roll out.
Where we go (or not) remains to be seen and here comes Xavier, impressively dangerous and talented with Christon.
Bring them on and let's see what happens.

Student Section was very weak last night. Tons of empty seats under the basket. With no classes today, no excuse for not having a few cocktails and going to the game and partying afterwards.
The game was won on the backboards, plain and simple. Batts, Henton Harris, all had big boards. They had no answer for Batts.
Back to back 3's by Fortune and Henton were the plays that broke Butler.
Butler played very tough defense and are scrappy. They remind me of our team last year. They are short 1 quality big man (DeRosiers) and one scorer (Harris). Kid from RI is a player.
Harris picks up 2 offensive charges per game. I thought he had a very good game last night, but again he was in foul trouble.

Sophomore.
Several times last night found myself saying "thank God he is on this team" - he fills a lot of gaps despite some rough edges. He skirts with taking steps as well but what he is bringing - along with CD - is a difference maker on this limited rotation. Future for Harris is bright as his game evolves. Thinking he could become a dangerous scorer down the line once he gains more time in position. Notice he is passing the rock more, goes right for the ball/rebounds plus he has size ...see 'upside' here?

Harris and CD <, =. or > than Council and Dunn of last year?
In my mind Batts is now playing like he did last year, Cotton is a scoring and passing point guard, where Council, hurt us on the line and from the floor shooting. Harris is much more of a scoring threat than Dunn was last year. Henton's numbers are similar, but he is a heck of a lot more efficient this season. Last year it was very common to see 4-17 nights from the floor. Not seeing that from Henton this season, as we have another scoring option with Harris. CD is a major upgrade down low over the Goldy and Kofane options of last year. Now the one thing that can not be accounted for is the fact that last year's Big East was stronger than this year's at the top, probably weaker at the bottom though.

Not only a weaker league...a weaker league with over half of the teams missing key players.

Cotton is a scoring and passing point guard... Indeed. Leads the Big East in assists per game. 5.8 vs #2 (Dee Davis/XU)@4.6apg. Every year he has added a facet to his game. We can now see the evidence of what this year's edition turns out to be.

I saw him take literally a dozen steps on a play last night where he scored. Don't know how he got away with it but I'll take it. He's shown some flash at moments that say "NBA" but he has to polish those rough edges when he gets out of control at times and turns it over.
