Any chance the staff is awaiting word on Dunn's return before they offer Tarin Smith?
This seems like a logical possibility IMHO
Smith is a player we would probably save the ship on if we KNOW Dunn is here next year with Fortune and Lomomba but if Kriss were to leave Smith literally becomes a must have over night as he's the best unsigned PG left that we know will qualify.
Something tells me we will either offer Smith(and land him) this week or next or not at all.

Oaklawn, are you speculating or have you heard something? No question they like Graham more than Smith and I agree that holding off on him maybe because they are waiting on Graham. Haven't heard anything that Graham's eligibility question will be resolved. Getting a commitment from Graham and having him available beginning 2015=2016 may take us out of the Jalen Adams recruitment.

can't count on dunn so i'd offer both if either smith or graham can even shoot a little....dunn can always play minutes at the 3 if one of the other two turns out to be better than advertised....can't imagine graham would mind if we was willing to go to nc st with barber already in the mix...

I do not think Dunn would be pushed to the 3. I think he is a solid 1 or 2, but he will have the ball in his hands when he is on the floor. I think the big thing is bringing in the guards who can handle taking the ball from Dunn at the point and allow Dunn to move in the offense going to the wing on plays.
I like Smith. I like him a lot. He can do everything that would help a team as a freshman guard coming in looking to play minutes and handle the tempo. I like Graham, but his situation is in limbo. But he's a good kid and would help this team.
I really enjoy watching some of the talent that is available. I am annoyed that Jared Wilson-Frame reclassified to 2015. PC offered him back in April 2013 and he decided to prep next year. I can appreciate that, but this kid has upside. Wish we could have gotten him. Time will tell for next year's class.
I would enjoy seeing Smith in a Friar uniform. He can hit the open 3, a contested 3, he can drive the baseline. He can pass, he can shoot, he comes off screens well. He does not need to be a stud. That's what development is for in the 4 years a player is here.
I do not know what is going to happen with Lyle, but he would be a perfect replacement for Austin. We will all know soon enough what his situation is, but he is a talent. I do not mind him being a bit of a ball hog because that's more him trying to get his looks and get it on tape with Huntington Prep having that NCAA issue with being non-scholastic.

My point is he is staying on the perimeter. Cooley has been using his 3's for physical work. Harris and Henton. I know that will change with the bodies coming in, but he is not putting Dunn in a situation where he takes more blows than needed.
I agree with you that Dunn cannot be counted on and that guards need to be brought in no matter what happens.
As for Lyle, I think you are right. But he has the most talent out of the recruits we have been talking about. Would you agree with that?

lyle is rated the highest...i've seen him play once and wasn't crazy about his game....have never seen smith or graham so i can't say...Cooley's been using 3s for physical work b/c our 3s are really 3/4s and they both fit into our top 6...i don't necessarily think that's his prefernce..he has no choice.

He played a lot of 3 guard last year. yes out of pure necessity......remember Kofane coming in for Batts last year? ? we were so thin up front last year Corey Wright would have logged minutes at the 5 spot if here and oh yeah don't forget......there will be two guys here named Harris & Henton (edit:+Lindsey)

My two cents: The existing roster forces Ed Cooley to play a more conventional line-up with players having to shift down one position, in order to compensate for our lack of true-guard depth.
That aside, I believe that Ed Cooley wants to have multiple, big guards (each capable of handling the ball) on the floor at the same time. All he needs is an ability to recruit and retain backcourt talent. Without ripping the scabs off, the roster was impacted by an early exit to the draft, a season ending injury, and a suspension/defection. Consequentially, we don't have the 6'7", 6'4" and 6'6" multi-dimensional guards that Ed had envisioned when he wrapped up '13 recruiting last spring.
Looking ahead, I sense that he'll again look to stock a number of guards who are equally capable of handling the ball. With K.Dunn back on campus, it's assumed that he will return and resume play as one of the pieces in the puzzle. Given his obvious talents - Kris should be penciled in as one of the ball handlers who would start. I'll assume that continued player development and recruiting will help to address where the outside shooting will come from...although we'll be EXTREMELY lucky to find someone who can come close to Bryce Cotton's scoring production.
