rock... i'd venture a bet that he heard some pretty serious health news for him to take this ballsy step. good for him. now stay healthy, lower the BF% and get to the NCAA tournament.

Sure, he doesn't get credit for will-power, as it was a surgical remedy not a deprivation remedy. OK, fine. But he elected for major surgery and all the dangers, recovery issues that brings. Maybe that's not will-power but it's balls, major balls. Dramatic measure. Color me even more impressed. As for the straw-man argument that posters (as in enough to mention) scoffed at the news Ed had surgery, man, I simply don't recall such a thing but I only read this board, not the others. Who the frigg cares. If I recall, Charlie Weis almost died from his surgery.

and Al Sharpton "diet plan" ------------------------------
I believe Sharpton (this instance only). People have been fired for saying they did it with disipline and workouts when they did not. I think he went from 305 to 165?
I really never paid much attention to Ed's lbs. other than notice he was an XL. IMO nobody should let it get over 250 but I've never had a weight problem.
"Charlie Weis almost died from his surgery. " -------------------------------------------------------
Indeed. Was given last rites and ended up partially paralyzed.

couldn't be happier for him and his family that he made the decision that forced healthier habits Yup probably a good feeling knowing someone you love(and isn't a youngster anymore) vastly lowered their risk for a heart attack and other life threatening conditions that effect people who are over weight and climbing in age right?

What an awesome article. Thanks for posting, guys. I know a couple of people who have endured the same surgical procedure as Cooley. According to these people, the pre-surgery prep. and psych. eval. process was pretty intense. From what I understand, it isn't impossible for a person to eat themselves back into their old bodies. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3096263/

Life changing habits are also needed. Eating the right foods is still required. Exercise is still required. (Heck even those people from Biggest Loser that don't have the surgery need to stay with program or they end up right back where they were when it started). Cooley should be praised for recognizing he needed to change and making the life decisions to do so. Even tougher for someone with the stress he has of running a D1 BBall program.
