Good to see "Big" Ed going public about his surgery and situation. It was obvious to so may that he was at risk with his ridiculous schedule while carrying all that weight around. Now having shed 100 lbs., he is half the man he used to be and hopefully will maintain the active healthy lifestyle and medical monitoring of his vitals.

The weight loss has been very apparent, but I didn't realize that this all started just 5, short months ago. Surgery aside, that's still amazing.
I did notice that Ed was drinking from a different sort of shake-cup during a recent game.

hate to be a hater... but the surgery is 90% of the reason for weight loss. right now his stomach is still not big enough to eat food even if he wanted.

OK, so?
Point is I know a number of people who have been helped by this procedure after many year's of struggling with obesity - many with great results.
Am I missing your point here peeps?

I just don't know where you are coming from peeps...the point is the surgery is only one part of what helps. Staying on with the diet and eating right is still required as well as exercise. If one does not eat right the surgery will not matter. I've seen this first hand from a family member. Sounds like to me Ed is making that commitment.

do you guys understand the biology of the surgery especially in the immediate aftermath? he literally CAN'T eat even if he wanted to because his stomach is not large enough. it is IMMENSELY helpful to get that drastic weight loss because the immediate results are forced. over time you are correct... you can begin to overeat again.
i'm just saying i don't think this is nearly the accomplishment with the drastic surgery.
with that said... i'm most pleased for his family as the track record for health changes with surgery are very positive historically.
i'm just saying let's not pretend he decided to use will power to gradually lose the weight. he forced his own hand. good for him for making that decision. hopefully in time he does not relapse.

Peeps -
Each of us read the article. We understand that surgery was involved - and weren't suggesting ("pretending") that this was solely the result of will power.
Again, I state that a loss of 100 pounds over a 5-month period is amazing.

I agree with Peeps. He couldn't eat a large quantity of food if he wanted to. His new stomach couldn't hold the food. There is no "Will power" involved. As Peeps stated its simple biology. If Cooley wanted to sit down and wold down a pizza, a bucket of chicken, and a pint of ice cream he wouldn't be able to eat the food. He wouldn't be able to get down more than 2 slices of pizza. If we are going to give Colley credit for "Will power" than the same kudos should be given to Star Jones. It's a funny that a few months back, I posted about Colley's rapid weight loss being the result of the ahem..cough..ahem Chris Christie and Al Sharpton "diet plan" and my post was shot down and scoffed at. Typical Friar Fans.

Sure, he doesn't get credit for will-power, as it was a surgical remedy not a deprivation remedy. OK, fine. But he elected for major surgery and all the dangers, recovery issues that brings. Maybe that's not will-power but it's balls, major balls. Dramatic measure. Color me even more impressed.
As for the straw-man argument that posters (as in enough to mention) scoffed at the news Ed had surgery, man, I simply don't recall such a thing but I only read this board, not the others. Who the frigg cares.
