(Cheat if you must dive for your Media Guides), but just for fun...
Since the Big East was founded, 18 Friars have been named to the ALL Big East Season Teams, (1st, 2nd, 3rd Team's, etc.) a total of 30 times, (several repeats).
Only 7 of these 18 Friars ever made it to the FIRST TEAM ALL BIG EAST.
Can you name them?
BONUS ?: Only ONE was named to the FIRST team twice. Can you name him?

Hey J,
You got Thomas but please...Guard Eddie "Lefty" Wineapple, from played in 1929 and averaged 13.9 ppg over 20 games. He even hit 50 Free Throws!! (HINT)
FRIAR BEAST TEAM YEAR
Jamel Thomas Second Team 1997-1998
The last FRIAR standing is so obvious, I venture to say that "Lefty" is having a good laugh right now for your 'guarded free throw' because the answer is not even in the Media Guide!

Yankee?
Maxey NO, (hard to believe but true - he NEVER made it to the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level of post season All Big East - so he is NOT among the answers to the last and final question, (below), of this Trivia Gambol)
OK, OK, FriarJ…
I did not see that Yankee slipped his answer in as I was responding to your “Wiseapple” crack – and yes, it was a great comeback trivia test ‘guess’ by you.
Hey J, did you know that “Lefty Wineapple” played for only one year as a Friar? He also played alongside William “Bill” McCue, the Friars’ Forward-Center from Paterson, NJ, who as a four year starter, (1928-31), averaged 5.4 ppg in his 73 game career!
Supplemental Question: Where did they play their games?
Back to the future then…yes, the answer is DMAC, a guard of course and a money Free Throw shooter (much like ‘Lefty” Wineapple was…McCue was apparently pretty shaky at the line, he only having 88 over his 4 year career as a Friar while playing Forward-Center while "Lefty" hit 50 FT's in one year!)
FRIAR BEAST TEAM YEAR
Donnie McGrath Second Team 2005-2006
Now this gets to be even more interesting.
And again, lay off the Media Guide’s and internet sources – just give us your best shots here…(NOTE: I can, and just might continue this Trivia Gambol from time to time, and I assure you all I have rare and very arcane resources to come up with additional trivia questions where the internet or “crib sheets” will do you little, if any, good regardless).
OK, I started this by stating that 18 Friars have been named a total of 30 times to one of the ALL BIG EAST Post-Season Teams, (First, Second and Third), with multiple repeats throughout.
Let’s make this easier and more interesting….here are all the previously mentioned Friars who also made it to either the First and Second ALL BIG EAST TEAMS. (As well as the THIRD TEAM):
Otis Thorpe Third Team 1981-1982
Otis Thorpe Third Team 1982-1983
Otis Thorpe First Team 1983-1984
Billy Donovan Third Team 1985-1986
Billy Donovan First Team 1986-1987
Eric Murdock Third Team 1988-1989
Eric Murdock First Team 1990-1991
Michael Smith Third Team 1991-1992
Michael Smith Second Team 1992-1993
Michael Smith Second Team 1993-1994
Austin Croshere Third Team 1995-1996
Austin Croshere First Team 1996-1997
Eight times, 7 Friar players have been named to the THIRD TEAM. Which means ONLY ONE was named twice, leaving 7 others who made the grade once.
So this then is a two part question:
Who was the only player, only named twice to the third team? (HINT: loved him, even if he was limited as a loooong range shooter)
AND…
Name the remaining 6 who made the third team, and only the third team once in their entire Friar careers?
Odd factoid, but true: Considering all the multiple repeats named above, (to be expected of course); Carlton Screen and DMAC are the only Friars who were named only once as ALL BIG EAST (both to the SECOND TEAM); these players, (with the one noted exception, above), ALL ONLY made it to the third team one time in their careers as Friars and there are 6 of them who stand alone.
NAME THOSE FRIARS!

I know they played some games in Harkins Hall in the early days. Not sure if that's where Wineapple played.

Yes, the answer I was going for regarding the great PC 1928-29 team would be LaSalle HS. They were very good but often had to practice outside. They played mostly road games.
Ed "Lefty" Wineapple, ironically was a transfer from Syracuse and became a First Team All American! He left PC after that one stellar 19 win season to play both professional basketball and baseball!
6' 6" Al McClellan was his HS coach at Salem HS in MA and the new coach at PC, (he commuted DAILY from Salem, MA), so even back in those days, maybe there were some, (ahem), 'connections' with players and coaches!
Later on our Friars (c. 1931) did play a few premier contests against national powers St. John's and CCNY at the old RI Auditorium because....
Harkins Hall was the home court from 1931 to 1946 and the major teams refused to play in the tny gym with ridiculously low ceilings and very small court. We compiled a 60-8 record at Harkins Hall!
Enough of the Ancient PC History lesson!
Back to the question at hand then:
Ricky Tucker NO
Rich Hunger NO
Abdul Abdullah NO
Correct so far are:
FRIAR BEAST TEAM YEAR
Rudy Williams Third Team 1979-1980
Steve Wright Third Team 1987-1988
Marques Bragg Third Team 1991-1992
Derrick Brown Third Team 1996-1997
(new additions being Rudy Williams - who still plays in top Men's Leagues locally in Southeastern MA, specifically the Brockton, MA area and Derrick Brown.)
So that leaves us with three unnamed including the one who was a two time third team looooong range Friar bomber!
NAME THOSE FRIARS!

I believe...
Mt. Pleasant HS was much later DEX - the pre-Alumni Hall days. a Father "Bags" Bagley and his sidekick Father Taylor deal, correct?
Sorry your hair hurts but I can document that the very early Al McClellan teams played at LaSalle; but most games were on the road, and they did practice outside quite often as well.
You want pictures?
Pictures I got.

Yankee closes this round with a 2/3 correct answer!
Pop Lewis NO
Marty Conlon and Dave 'lunch-pail" Kipfer are the last 2 Friars we needed to fnish this round of Friar Trivia.
Marty Conlon was one of my family's favs and as we know, he remains close to the program after a well-earned long career both overseas and in the NBA. My oldest, (now 26), still does a great mimic of "Marty Conlon on-the-foul-line" scowl. Talk about a pained look?
Dave Kipfer, along with Billy D, is the classic "Pitino-Made" player and he will always have a special place for all Friars for his amazing 'get-your act together' emergence during the 1987 run to the Final Four.
Here then is the complete list of all time ALL BIG EAST FRIARS.

This is a great intro to a fascinating new feature here at BEB. Howevr, I think the questions were way too difficult for the eroding brain cells of AARP devotees. I think that by doing this sparingly, you will increase it's cache immensely.

As BCJoe would say, “Good Stuff – All Good Stuff”!
With the season fast approaching FRIAR TRIVIA TIME will actually be put into the “less is more zone” although it may pop up now and then should season events tie into those of the past…
I will do this gig periodically here – with no set schedule – whenever the brain droppings inspire and the arcane tidbits fit the tone of the BEB's Providence board.
Making it too easy is pointless and self-defeating – as are questions that can be “googled” or “media guided” for those inclined to crib sheet their way to “Fast Friar Fandom” status…to do so would dishonor every sweaty, plodding run-step that Duffy Dwyer the late great Phantom Friar made on his way to glory as a national icon!
OK?
Here is one last one for now.
It is an easy one yet it served me well for years whenever I was challenged by skeptics who ignorantly scoffed at my incessant obsession regarding the FRIAR LEGACY. (HINT)
It has also, and more than once, been used incorrectly of late; incredibly at the DUNK last season during a PC game – (yes I got up and yelled down at RED Dolan for the ignorance) - and again ignorantly stated incorrectly by a commentator on national TV during the NCAA Tournament when all the attention was being given to the Donovan-Larranaga Friar connections –(I yelled at the TV, of course providing my family with much amusement and eye-rolling!).
(DEX is NOT allowed to hurt his hair with this one because he already knows the answer....)
For many, many years, only two individuals in the history of the game were ever inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame for two different levels of achievement, (college and professional basketball), this has now been upgraded to three.
Name them and then name the third individual who has changed that question/answer to ‘three’?.

John Wooden
Lenny Wilkens
Bill Sharman, a couple of years ago he was inducted again as a coach.

Off for several days on a half-country sojourn but I assure you when FRIAR TRIVIA TIME returns sometime down the road, (pun intended), you will be challenged J.
And you can take that to the bank because you have no idea what I have in my archives!

Two year average 17.3 ppg.
