Friars beating themselves much more than anything Xavier is doing...hard to watch.

Gaffney with another crap call
But then Murcura with offensive questionable call...
These guys are terrible...
If we see Gaffney on Saturday Ed will go balistic
Hope he grades this team with all Fs and Mack as well grades then with an F...

Thought they put up a decent fight against #3 on the road.
Also thought White was a revelation in the second half- looked like a tough scoring 2 guard.

White and the bench played well. 3 starters, stunk.

17 turnovers.... they cannot win with that amount of turnovers
Not impressed with Diallo's game tonight...can't see him taking those 3's...
Lindsey since the concussion is not even close to hitting shots..
Bullock only 6 points tonight...
So 2 of the 3 seniors might as well have not dressed for this one

Without Cartwright setting him up... he won't hurt you.

Without Cartwright setting him up... he won't hurt you. It seems like a few schools finally figured that out this year. Sit in his pocket and make Lindsey put it on the floor and the Friars play 4 on 5 on offense when he's in the game.

How about Bullock getting beat like a drum off the dribble for layups in the 1st half? Come on man!

No matter to our fate but the crew kept saying X was goijng for a share of the BE title and showing banners from their A10 days. They even flashed a graphic saying it...does the BE award regular season titles? Do teams hang banners? I thought I read the BE media guide awards a BET champion who is recognized the league champion for the year...

CINCINNATI — No ribbons for mental toughness are handed out in the Big East, but Providence College’s effort was the only positive from yet another loss for the Friars on Wednesday night at the Cintas Center.
The Friars (18-12, 9-8) played No. 3 Xavier tough and were within two 3-point shots in the final three minutes but could not make a run in an 84-74 loss.
The win was historic for the Musketeers (26-4, 14-3) as they clinched a tie for their first Big East regular-season championship. Trevon Blueitt led the Muskies with 23 points and guard Quentin Goodin added 18 for a team that welcomed its fans to rush the floor at the final buzzer. Xavier can win the title outright with a victory at DePaul on Saturday.
“There’s nothing better that could have happened tonight, especially in our building,” said senior center Sean O’Mara. “We have plenty more to do.”
Providence was looking for a season sweep of the Musketeers but winning on the home floor of the No. 3 team in the country is a tall order. PC trailed by three points at the half and remained within striking distance but could never string up enough key plays to stun a sellout crowd of 10,715.
Maliek White came off the bench to lead the Friars with 15 points. Alpha Diallo and Isaiah Jackson added 13 apiece.
“I was really proud of what our kids did,” said PC coach Ed Cooley. “I thought we played hard and we played together but we made a lot of mistakes to start both halves. They got comfortable. We positioned ourselves to win the game and cut it to six a couple of times but couldn’t close the deal.”
The Friars listed a few musts atop their scouting report and surprisingly checked some of those boxes. They needed to limit Xavier’s 3-point shooting and the Musketeers made just one of their first nine tries and finished with only five treys. They also needed to hold their own off the boards and did at least a decent job, getting out-rebounded 34-25.
Providence shot 65.2 percent (15-for-23) in the first half but 11 turnovers ruined the team’s chances until a bizarre final three-minute push cut Xavier’s halftime lead to just 40-37.
“You shoot 65 percent and you’re down three? That tells you how many mistakes you made,” Cooley said.
Xavier’s array of weapons trumped anything PC’s defense threw its way in the opening 15 minutes. The Musketeers jumped out to a 21-8 lead as the Friars offense specialized in totaling turnovers more than points.
Xavier’s Goodin proved to be a major headache with the ball in his hands as he scored 11 points and dished out two assists. Blueitt also scored 11 in the half but was helped by getting to the free-throw line and making all four of his tries.
The Goodin-Blueitt combination helped stake the Muskies to a 36-24 lead with 3:29 left in the half but the rest of the way belonged to the Friars. The missing ingredient was the 3-point shot and Makai Ashton-Langford. Threes by Jackson and White were followed by a three-point play by the freshman point guard. After a Tyrique Jones slam made it 40-33, PC’s Kyron Cartwright (10 points, 5 assists) hit a jumper and then Ashton-Langford calmly dribbled the final seconds of the half out and banked in a short shot to slice the deficit to 40-37.
The Friars made it a one-point game by opening the scoring in the second half with Rodney Bullock’s first field goal of the game but that only spurred the home team on. Xavier took advantage of two more turnovers to score the game’s next 10 points and grabbed a 50-39 lead. Cartwright picked up his third and fourth fouls within 18 seconds and went to the bench with 15:22 to play.
It was only a 65-59 deficit for the Friars with 5:53 left after a Bullock hoop.
That’s when freshman Naji Marshall was let loose atop the key and nailed a 3-pointer for his first points of the game. Bullock fouled out with 4:42 left and Xavier up 71-61, but the Friars kept at it and sliced the deficit to 73-67 with 3:08 to play. That was as far as PC could get as Xavier continued its torrid free-throw shooting (23-for-26) to close things out.
“You play against a great team like that I don’t know if you have to play perfect but you have to play well in order to win on the road,” Cooley said. “They got some easy baskets on run-outs and then the crowd gets emotional so give them a lot of credit. They were the better team today but I would love to have an opportunity to play them again.”
