Talking about slavery, Brown was founded on slavery profits from the Brown family slave business in Newport
Newport was a pretty active slave port

By Golly the WTM97 playbook worked like a charm for the fans of the Hoyas. I must say it's so nice not having to March On Harkins replete with the lit torches anymore. Thank you Sir Robert Driscoll.
I'm gonna miss JT3 and Big Ed will too...wins may be harder to come by if they get a 21st century coach.
I won't miss seeing the grumpy old man overlapping two chairs on tv at the games.

What a day for the coaching carousel.
First Georgetown axed John Thompson III after 13 years, and then Winthrop’s Pat Kelsey stranded UMass at the altar. Kelsey cancelled his introductory press conference at the last minute because of a “change of heart,” according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.
Twitter quickly exploded with rumors that Kelsey may have received a call from Georgetown, or even that he’s anticipating a job opening at Xavier. Kelsey played for the Musketeers in the 1990s and was later their associate head coach. (Current Xavier coach Chris Mack is a rumored candidate for the Indiana opening.)
But Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel then reported Kelsey plans to return to Winthrop.

The Kelsey thing while odd portends more changes are coming which we all know...
Keep in mind that while Chris Mack's run with Xavier has elevated his profile, he too is an Alum and former player for the Musketeers...yet if Indiana wants to double his pay, who knows. Many think the Hoosiers may be looking out WEST, as in UCLA.
Goodman's insistent bantering of Cooley's name for Georgetown once again shows how our program remains seen as a stepping stone position.

It reminds me that Goodman doesn't really know Ed Cooley or the "New" Big East...

Agree. Also while I hope Mack stays, I could see the lure of Blue Blood Indiana, even as they've been similar in profile to Xavier -sweet 16 threat) they're still a blue blood historically. I don't see Georgtown being attractive enough to lure Cooley, but you never know I guess. I'd like to think Ed will be around awhile and continue building here. That said a deep run will always render the coach a threat to be poached, look at X now, who no doubt is on stronger footing than we.

what did goodman say that is wrong? He said they need help and should call our coach which makes sense as it would keep JTjr happy AND get them a quality coach.

Goodman didn't say anything wrong at all - just that he seems focused on Ed getting that call perhaps?
The old houndiog is 75 - the statue is there along with the Thompson Center... how much actual pull he will have is dubious since the Hoyas have now decided to move forward and beyond the Thompson Era.
If they call they call - don't see Ed jumping though...
Agree Smart is their best fit even though he really is ramping up at Texas...

Jeff BorzelloVerified account @jeffborzello 16m16 minutes ago California officially announces Wyking Jones as its next head coach. www.yahoo.com/news/cash-strapped-cal-promotes-top-assistant-to-replace-cuonzo-martin-204003007.htmlCash-strapped Cal promotes top assistant to replace Cuonzo Martin Cal made a surprising coaching hire on Friday that hints at some of the financial issues facing its athletic department. The Bears promoted assistant Wyking Jones to head coach just nine days after Cuonzo Martin resigned to take over at Missouri. A school typically promotes an assistant from the previous head coach’s staff when its program is thriving, but Cal has no incentive to want to retain its current roster and maintain continuity. Not only did the underachieving Bears fall in the first round of the NIT this season, they also graduate five rotation players and will lose sophomore Ivan Rabb to the NBA draft. Jones has no previous head coaching experience, but he does have an impressive history of mining the West Coast for talent as an assistant.
