Not comparing the two...not even close. But I've got a hard time giving our coach an attaboy for his handling of the austin situation. They are completely incomparable....in one, a coach has to react to a player doing something where he has only a sketchy, one sided version of what happened....in the other, a coach is, through premeditation, acting as the major piece of a horrible situation. I don't like how Cooley reacted to Austin based on what I read either, but I don't have any idea of what I read was the whole truth to how he reacted.....nor do I know what actually happened with Austin. I can't really throw the book at Louisville here, either, because the story seems really odd...I would think there are plenty of girls on campus who would willingly entertain recruits for no money. If Greedy had one in his stable, I would assume there were dozens at a big time hoops school like Louisville. Then again, maybe the coach wanted a professional....

I would like to think that Cooley learned a lot through that situation two years ago, and I also think that he is probably very grateful that our administration handled that the way they did.
As far as this topic is concerned...it's the era we live in and I find none of this shocking...surprised more than anything that a program like Louisvile could be so stupid to get caught like that...especially 3 sec slick rick...I mean, really man???

Actually thump I was responding to connfriars post about the swiftness in which our administration handled that situation. Our coach was not as quick and got very lucky our admin held their ground imo...although brandon austin would be on campus if cooley got his way...

Kmac Weighs In
Scandal spells trouble for Pitino
KEVIN MCNAMARA
The good news for Louisville basketball fans is that Rick Pitino knows all too well how to deal with controversy. The bad news is that the latest, oh-so-salacious soap opera the former Providence College and Boston Celtics coach is facing could prove to be his downfall.
The particulars are as follows: An admitted Louisville prostitute/madam has written a book titled "Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen." The story, written with Pulitzer Prize winner Dick Cady of Indianapolis, claims that former Louisville player and coaching staff member Andre McGee repeatedly hired Katina Powell to provide strippers and prostitutes during campus visits of highly sought-after high school basketball players.
The women would be paid in cash and game tickets to perform for recruits, and in some cases their fathers, as well as then-current Louisville players. The book names players involved and contains pictures of Powell and other women — including her three teenage daughters — with Cardinals players.
Most of the escapades reportedly played out at Minardi Hall, a campus dormitory named after Pitino's brother-in-law who was killed in the 9/11 attacks. Pitino, to no one's surprise, has denied knowledge of the trysts.
This may sound naïve, but I believe Pitino. No head coach with a pulse, especially one who has made it to basketball's mountaintop, would bless such a tawdry process. But in the new NCAA, the head coach's fingertips don't have to be the ones that typed the text messages that lined up trysts with call girls. As Syracuse's Jim Boeheim and SMU's Larry Brown have learned (with North Carolina's Roy Williams likely on deck), the NCAA now is penalizing head coaches with a "failure-to-monitor charge" when a staff member is found to have broken rules.
McGee, who is now at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, hasn't spoken on the subject. Neither has Celtics rookie Terry Rozier, one of the ex-Louisville players mentioned as a potential client in the book. Louisville is cooperating with the NCAA, and Pitino says he knows "very little" about the whole ordeal and isn't yet able to deny the claims. Even so, after watching the 63-year-old meet with the press twice over the weekend, it is clear this book will be the talk of Louisville over the next several months.
"I'll never look at that," Pitino said of the book. "The name of that book was motive for money. I'm not going to sink to that level. The truth — we will find the truth. If we did something wrong, we're going to own up to it. We're going to be truthful to the NCAA."
Pitino went on to defend his program. He said pictures of his players with young women don't implicate anyone. After all, his Cardinals mirror the fame of the New England Patriots in our state and are asked to take "selfies" several times a day by female fans. He says he's looking forward to "the truth" surfacing in the coming weeks.
"I base things on the truth. I always say, there is an old saying: 'The truth will set you free.' You're hearing one side of the story. We're going to hear a different side of the story when the truth comes out," he said.
Powell's publisher, IBJ Book Publishing, is co-owned by one of Indiana University's biggest athletic boosters. To say that the Hoosiers and the Cardinals don't like each other is an understatement, but now the claims in the book will be vetted to some extent by the U of L and the NCAA, and a version of the truth will surface. If McGee's involvement is proven and traced back to the coaching staff, Pitino will be the big fish in deep trouble and the Cards' 2013 national championship could become an issue.
Powell isn't hiding her reasons for keeping a journal with what she claims are records of her clients' names, text messages with McGee and other evidence. She also doesn't hide that she's out to make money. The publisher did not pay her a book advance, but she will be paid 10 percent of its gross sales. Asked if she's concerned that she could be sued for making false claims, Powell didn't flinch.
"For the truth?" she said. "If you can get sued for the truth, hey, [McGee] can get every penny out of me. But it's the truth, and I've never known a person to be sued for the truth."

Stuff of nonsense suspended yet quite predictable.
That Louisville with all of the advantages had a staff member allegedly involved with an escort service and then bringing the beauties right onto campus is a bit over the top. Yet now they have has been exposed here and it is national news and open for fair comment - again, if it is proved to be true as Pitino has already pointed out himself.
ALL programs have issues, many of them very, very serious and we sure have had our share - e.g. last I checked Lacy and Still are still in prison.
Larger point has been well stated by friara here.

The column stunk. He strongly intimated IU is involved somehow because they have a tangential relationship with the publisher. So what. IMO there will be a second wave of information that will come after the buzz from last weekend dies down (that is not in the book). The co-author is no hack.
As an aside the Courier-Journal was once a great family-owned newspaper. The kind that don't exist anymore. One of the best in the country. From the little I've seen of it in recent years it's still pretty good. I have confidence the LC-J will handle this correctly unlike some other college town newspapers that I can think of.

Apparently suspended poster deleted all of his own posts - it was not me and I have not been informed by the co-mods that they did either so...

Earlier this afternoon, when I tried to log on to the site. It said I was banned from the board. As someone that has been banned, suspended, warned, etc..many, many times from this board. I shrugged, and went about my day. Then I received a SMS asking why I deleted my posts. So, I logged back on the board and violà! I was no longer banned, yet my posts were still deleted. Although, my warning level is still at a robust 91%.
Frankly, I don't give a poop if the mods ban, suspend, censor, etc me. I rarely, if ever, post on here. The days of getting "news" on these type of boards has gone the way of the fax. Twitter has ended the usefulness of the message board.
Having said that, when the hypocrisy and schandenfreude gets to be a little too much on here. I will share my opinion. After all, isn't that what all of us do here? Isn't this and all fan message boards about sharing opinions? Unless your opinion is different than the mods and The Core. Then it's hand slapping time. Oh no! Someone has a dissenting opinion about our Friars??? The horror!!
So, I will let you all get back to your masturbatory back slapping of one another, while you castigate and ridicule anyone that doesn't believe in your caveman rhetoric that PC IS GOOD. EVERYONE ELSE IS BAD! Objectivity has never been the strength of this board and most of its posters.
EDIT
PS
GO FRIARS!!!!
