News over the past 24-hours tasks the NCAA with the obligation to review and pass judgement on two of the premier ACC Programs. As members of the "Power 5", will the process drag out with no upfront sanctions? And what of the final findings and potential penalties?
Does the NCAA have the fortitude to come down hard on some pretty significant breaches? And while they're at it, how long will they drag out the clearance process for a kid who was academically accomplished in one of the better Prep Schools out there (our own Ben Bentil)?
I've got my pitch fork and kerosene soaked torch ready, and am waiting...

They are going to have to come down hard on both UNC and SU. They have laid down the law with UConn for APR violations and the findings at UNC and SU are far worse.

Isn't the first time - and won't be the last that the joke is on me!
Having said that, I'm very pleased that the NCAA passed this critical test.

Well whatever but I am guessing it is CUSE who is the other power school where abuses are being exposed...point is we all know there has always been a wink wink nod nod regarding athletes and college sports everywhere. Friend who played hoops D1 told me well heeled alums would visit the locker room after games and drop cash into his blazer jacket - nothing overt or ever said just a few $20 "found" in his pocket later on...that stuff has gone on forwvwer but what UNC did for such a long time is out of control.
Thinking lot's of smoke up at CUSE so wed will see...

Agreed, WTM... "out of control"
Based upon what I've read, UNC seems to have institutionalized the practice of academic fraud. We're talking about more than 1,000 student athletes enrolling in courses over the years, that didn't require class room attendance or tests...simply submit a paper, collect your A/B+ grade and move on.
If the NCAA is serious about student/athletes, it will jump on the reported severity of these allegations, as a "teachable moment" for other Schools and Programs where academic fraud is as pervasive.

That the UNC thing went on for 18 years is indicative of deep seated institutionalized fraud now uncovered in a 136 page report from a former federal prosecutor. Denial of knowledge of this is patently absurd - 3,100 students over all that time? It is one thing to "take care of" and coddle - even give athletes an e-z road such as 'recreational management' or 'community development' - even at PC to steer them towards 'friendly' profs...but this was systemic, obviously 'purpose-built' and way out of line. This had to be well known by many - amazed at how long it endured without discovery. Saddest of all is the ones most harmed are the athletes themselves - they have been defrauded and used...

This is hilarious and to think that they tried to make it seem like Rashard McCants was making all of this up. Poor Roy acting innocent like he didn't know what was going on.

Sad thing is, these coaches actually believe themselves when they say they didn't know. They are told only what they want to know, classic case of plausible deniability.

Dad Gum Roy you cheated you pr!ck
et tu Jimmy B? The Dome was not enough of an advantage? Academics a joke? Players undisciplined as they hung in the slimely part of town! Always with your head turned and always spewing crap about the paragon of virtue Fr Flanagan
Where's that piece of crap acc Commissioner Swofford? ESPN?
...and you know what? The super acc has more slimey programs and likely even worse than these two schools...wet your beak with FSU for openers.
anyway I hope these creeps get a huge crippling penalty and it causes all the bcs5 conferences to contemplate policeing themselves and maintaining a level playing field when they break

Self righteous fools.... "The ACC is a strong united conference that is only going to get better with the addition of the University of Pittsburgh and Syracuse University," said Duke University President Richard Brodhead, chair of the ACC Council of Presidents. "Both schools are committed to competing at the highest level of academics and athletics. We welcome them as full partners in the ACC." " The ACC has enjoyed a rich tradition by balancing academics and athletics and the addition of Pitt and Syracuse further strengthens the ACC culture in this regard," said Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford." "We are very excited to be joining the ACC. This is a tremendous opportunity for Syracuse, and with its outstanding academic quality and athletic excellence, the ACC is a perfect fit for us," said Nancy Cantor, Chancellor and President of Syracuse University. www.theacc.com/#!/news-detail/genrel-091811aaa.html?rsrc=splash-expand091811

Thanks '82 so Cuse honcho is named Susan Cantor eh? Hopefully she goes down in the annals of incompetent presidents like donna Sha Na Na of Miami fame. Not to be out-done, I also despise that boss of Pitt who arranged for the BE not to accept the huge tv contract while conspiring to screw to the acc
