Cherington in a unanimous vote. What he did, especially in the wake of Theodom and the reckless Yankee-like spending spree, was remarkable.

well Rock baseball fans can be thankful this Holiday season that CASHman is continuing his drunken sailor routine in hopes of filling those empty seats
and yankee fans can be thankful they have the Coupons running the Mets as neighbors

Word is, with the Yankee's current offensive lineup of "power" hitters the team will be moving the fences in 15 feet.

They already did that for Dave Winfield...sorry that was the old place...
Dex remembers the 457' center field when MM roamed behind the flagpole when necessary.
pcdad stopped attending games as they as only corporate types can shell out for the seats and the concessions. pcdad was a "Con Ed kid" patrolling the bleachers.
admission to Yankee Stadium was thus:
Box Seats - $3.50 Lodge - $2.50 Grandstands - $1.50 Bleachers - $0.75
no money for concessions, must have been a water fountain somewhere.
no parental supervison, just walked or hopped the subway with friends to attend.
Let's see: Combs to DiMaggio Di Maggio to Mantle Mantle to Murcer Murcer to Rivers Rivers to...Murcer Mercer to Washington Washington to Kelly Kelly to Bernie Bernie to Johmny D Damon to Grandy/Gardner Grandy/Gardner to Ells....
apologies to those I missed who graced the position on hallowed ground

So Joba Chamberlain signs a one year deal with the Tigers for $2.5 plus incentives. I guess getting away from Girardi might help the guy. Unfortunately Leyland retired who maybe could have helped the guy a lot. Just another CASHman gem now relegated to the dustbin of discarded expensive ideas.

Fenway is historically the biggest bandbox in all of baseball. Yes The Stadium gives up some cheap homers to RF but at least it's not a ping pong machine. All you have to do is look at Pedroia's home/away splits. Away from Fenway little'ole Dusty is nothing more than a pretty good to good hitter with a career stash line of .286/.356/.411/.767......BUT when the great Fenway factor comes into play you see a pretty good hitter become an all-star hitter(318/.384/.497/.880). Imagine if Cano ever played 80 games a year at Fenway? Look at what he's done over 79 games and 328 AB's throughout his career at Friendly Fenway(.338/.383/.558/.941). This is also the reason why Cano and Pedroia don't belong in the same sentence IMO. Always felt Cano would have won batting titles at Fenway.

Comparing a stadium that's five generations old to one that's five seasons in existance isn't an apt comparison.
No one speaking honestly would say the the new stadium is a winner. It's a monument to poor planning...what's with the L-R wind tunnel... (and taste). Some have got it right with gorgeous parks. Others haven't.
Imagine if Cano ever played 80 games I'd rather imagine him playing 80 games in Seattle.

More sound money would be on trading Lackey, Demster or Peavy. Either way, I could see a trade involving one of those hurlers and maybe a Middlebrooks/prospect for a stud bat. Not Trumbo or an injured guy like Kemp but a guy we aren't thinking of, not seeing on the radar right now. Headly, Zimmerman? I dunno, Belte? Someone. I just hope whatever they do they take a breath, let the market exhale a bit and utilize the WS capital they have. I fear two things: giving Lackey away and thinking JBJ is ready to play everyday. Yanks seem to be running in place a bit to me: Add Ells, Beltre, McCann, lose draft picks, Grandy and Cano while not strengthening that troubled, aging pitching staff. What don't you understand about them not losing draft picks? The picked two right back up when Grandy signed with the Mets and Cano inked with Seattle. Did Boston even make a qualifying offer to Ellsbury? Did Atlanta to McCann? Hell the Yankees might have gained draft picks. They might have obtained even more draft picks after other teams pick or already picked up the likes of Aardsma, Joba, Cano, Grandy, Hughes, Logan, Overbay, Reynolds. I know the Yanks didn't make qualifying offers to all of these guys but I know they did to at least 4-5 of them which will all bring back draft picks. I think it's safe to say right now the Yankees have gained more picks than they lost this offseason and for anyone that doesn't understand the difference between swapping out Chris Stewart/Lyle Overbay/Zolio Almonte & Ichiro for the likes of McCann/Teixeira/Beltran makes me really SMH... If Tanaka doesn't post I think you will see Santana signed. I'll go to war with a rotation of Nova, Santana, Kuroda, Pineda, and CC. Basically your front 3 is really stout and good chance CC bounces back from an off year. Pineda is obviously the dark horse. I honestly think NY becomes the favorites in the East if they pick up either Santana or Tanaka and hopefully one more set-up/closer type arm for the pen. I really think Boston and their fans are underestimating the loss of Ellsbury........no replacing that kind of production on top of your order and if Ortiz doesn't repeat with another .300/30/100 season at 38 years old..... Now of course ESPN and other networks won't come out and call the Yanks the favorites because it's better for ratings going against the big bad Yankees but I don't see anyway they aren't with the impact Ellsbury swings in NY's favor. I mean even when the yanks were the best team in the division for the last 10 years running all we heard about was Tampa being the favs(while i was SMH).....think they won the division 1x? Boston also downgraded at catcher which along with CF are two of the most important positions on the field.(the Yankees get vastly better at both positions in 2014 same with SS/1B/3B ).....don't forget they still won 84-85 games last year not 70-71..
