First Segment:
- Unusual 8-game break at this time of year.
- After 5 games, Kim likes where we are...thinks we're improving, getting close together. Excited to take next step
- Early games provided opportunity to get young players time and allow them to understand what it means to play to Kim's "standard", and what the "non-negotiables" are - including battling for loose balls and on the glass.
- Ball security, shot selection and being "who we want to be" improved in the Delaware State game.
- Kim has 10 Goals for every game. From a program "standard standpoint", he expects PC to play harder than the opposition, every night.
- Not difficult to set rotation. Players understand that we are very deep, and that practice and game production and mindset will determine who gets time.
- Players getting closer to understanding their roles. Benzley, JP, Corey, and BHop helping the process along.
- Hopkins participated in 5 v 5 full-practice. Getting closer to returning every day.
- Great field in the Bahamas. Really excited. Oklahoma plays hard, wants to turn defense into offense.
- Team is deep and in shape to endure 3 games in 3 days at Battle 4 Atlantis.
Second Segment:
- Wes Cardet joins the show.
- Decision to come to PC based on Kim's commitment during the process and sense that he can develop his game in our system.
- Wes needed to adjust and figure out his role on the team, leading to the slow start. Understands expectation that he must play hard
- Cardet senses that team is getting more and more connected, playing with energy - the right way. Keeping things simple and allowing the game to open up.
- Wes admires Oswin's athleticism, JP's playing making abilities, Benzley's energy, Jabri's shooting... fun to watch.
- To bring out the best in the younger kids, Wes encourages his teammates.
- Wants to get better at guarding the ball, talking more, making the right read on offense.
- Rooke mentioned that Wes is looking more comfortable on the floor with each game.
- His uncles taught Wes to be a high energy guy and good teammate.
- Looking forward to uptick in competition in the coming week. Ready to make some noise with teammates in the Bahamas.
Third Segment:
- Dan Gavitt joins the show.
- Both Dan and Kim were Assistants under Rick Barnes.
- Re: recent Rule Changes - Player ejected and suspended for physical contact with an official (incidents recently in other NCAA sports). Last second shots are now reviewable play (incident during GTown-VCU game last year)
- Potential expansion of NCAA Tournament: Been under review for well over a year. With conference re-alignment, 68 may not be the right field size. Additional 4-8 teams is possible - but not before 2026 Championship.
- 5 teams stole bids last year, eating up the Bubble at the BE's expense.
- BE is well positioned with depth of the league. Non-conference competition and performance really matter come March. Battle 4 Atlantis great oppty for the Friars.
- Kim thinks potential Tournament expansion would "be great". Equity.
- Legal challenges surrounding college sports. Revenue sharing... NIL... Transfer Portal. NCAA needs help from federal government as the state-legislative controlled environment makes for an unmanageable environment.
Fourth Segment:
- KMac joins the show.
- RI Coaches vs Cancer event held several weeks back got started by Kevin. In its 3rd year. College hoops is "RI's professional sport"
- Our pre-season with UMass was a charitable event, with proceeds spread throughout the community
- 3-weeks into the season, KMac has a hard time evaluating where most teams are... recognizes that it provided PC with the opportunity to pull new team together.
- Going forward, we will really see where teams are with PC in Bahamas, UConn in Hawaii. Marquette with 3-4 experience starters back and two impressive wins already, looks very strong.
- Kim commenting on schedule... many games are "set". Can be difficult to bring teams into the AMP. Really looking forward to the Bahamas.
- Oklahoma has one of the best rebounders in the nation returning. Better shooting team than last season.
Final Segment:
- Oklahoma has strength inside. Will be "best team we have seen by a wide margin". 8th in the country forcing turnovers.
- PC has to avoid turnovers and get back quickly on defense.
