I think everyone knows its real now but for any last holdouts the non denials and no comments from the BE officials and Uconn officials tells you your answer.
I personally support this at this time. 5 years or even 3 years ago? No. I was part of the let them rot crowd. But today if we're being honest the BE is sliding. the last couple of seasons and Villanova is carrying too much. The teams arent performing in March enough. The product is getting stale and recruiting is sliding. This juices the league at the right time.
The boneyard is worth reading for high comedy. There is a 'civil conflict'going on over there pitting realists vs delusionalists. The delusional faction on an ever shrinking island is still
1. Self important. They act as if Hartford or whatever armpit UCONN resides represents cosmopolitan NYC and "middle America" where the Xaviers, Creightons, Marquettes exist are backwater flyover areas....as if Connecticut isn't solely a cut through between MA and NYC worth but a small diversion for pizza slices.
2. Of the firm religious conviction that Uconn football matters to ANYONE except a small group of diehard uconn alums and that the P5 invite is still immanent. 5 or 6 years ago some of us posted what a joke their football program was and would continue to be and yet some still cling to the idea a team losing 50 to 14 every week in front of a stadium a quarter full and going winless merits consideration with big time programs. Forget the tens of millions their tax and spend state is losing on all this.
3. That the AAC basketball is on par or better than what they call the NBE...this one is my favorite. In no metric has the AAC ever been better. Not in attendance, TV ratings, RPI ranking, conference tourney attendance, money (discounting football cash) or NCAA tourney performance.
All that said the above cult is now a loud minority. Early on they mocked and laughed at the NBE and said wed never sell out MSG. Wed never see a member win another NC...blah blah blah. Having been dead wrong on each prediction and playing their conference tourney in front of 5600 indifferent fans in some podunk town has finally changed hearts and minds. Their poll and anecdotal posts shows that most of their fandom now get it. I begrudgingly respect their past success in basketball and welcome the round Robin rivalry and huge crowds to follow. Their alumni base and active student body is large. The BET just got better and all the attendance will be up league wide because of this move. Here's hoping we put a very painful poison pill into the deal to keep them from bolting.
As for PC? Spare me the woe is me. Compete and beat them.
