Huge concern that we are headed for another Fr Smith.
There’s a lot a friction with the success of the business school among the Dominicans because we are a liberal arts college.

One of the main reasons for its success is we are a liberal arts college. Our business graduates know how to read write and solve problems with great proficiency.

Cannot go back to pre-Shanley,,,and not sure why there s any friction with the business school...that was much needed and makes the whole college better. The landscape has changed and the college arms race is in full swing especially is you plan to charge families $65K per year...we need to build on what Fr Shanley has put in place...no going backwards and yes athletics drives support, provides unbelievable advertising and pride for college kids, the state, the city and alumni.
No going backwards.

If we go backwards, we might as well pre-schedule Duquesne twice a year. Can’t go backwards with next Pres, from a big picture vision standpoint, of which athletics plays a huge part, at PC.

Let's strive to be Villanova and Boston College...the folks who decide these things must be aware of the success and direction Fr Shanley has us going?

The folks that made this decision went against the wishes of the lay trustees. Go to the website and look at the credentials of the lay trustees.
Their credentials are phenomenal.
Now compare the credentials of a bunch of Dominicans vs the lay trustees and tell me who you think should decide who should run the college for the next 5 years.

The man who invented the urban sombrero is on the board. How could you not listen to him???

To the extent that PC's Business School graduates are successful in life is due in part to their exposure to the mandatory liberal arts education they receive at PC. Liberal arts and business should be viewed as complementary.
Bluntly, all scholarship athletics are part of a college/university's marketing program. Some young men and women apply and accept an admission's offer, in part, because of athletic success. This is not logical behavior, but it is true. How many of the 12,000-odd applicants this year would not have sent in the application and fee without our athletic success and the public prominence of the hockey, basketball, and soccer teams?

I get so aggravated at the Smith revisionist history. he lived athletics. hate to pull a Lloyd Bentsen but I would understand it if people were afraid of another Fr Cunningham. he was NOT a sports guy. Keep in mind Fr Smith canned Marinatto and took MUCHO shite for it. The guy he hired was Driscoll. And If you think Shanley would have kept baseball you are on drugs. Just my opinion.
I think Fr Shanley and his not backing certain RAs and Professors who are more conservative has hurt his standing with OP boys.

Tough to tell which rag is worse...this golocal or the projo. golocal is funny bec more often than not they pick up what the projo prints and then add OLD stories about the subject to fill up space. I do like the Comment section at the end of the articles...something projo has eliminated if you can believe it. The only real journalism is right here at FTh on the OT Board which btw is rumored to be in the running for a Pulitzer nomination.
I used to get a kick out of watching Ch 10 news here in RI with Frank Coletta at Sunrise....just him and a weather person. I would be reading the old Projo and Frankie would be saying the same thing as I was reading. They probably still do but he as a woman co-pilot now and also a traffic babe which is mandatory these days.
Like Projo the poor bastages are broke and and their staffs are MUCH smaller and the nice cub reporters are way more incompetent or perhaps less educated is a better way to describe them.
