Less than 9 minutes in ...Baylor is 6-10 from 3 and Syracuse is 4-7 from 3. We'd be down by double digits to both. Get some shooters!
Sorry posted this in wrong thread... but get some shooters, Ed! Please!

Mind boggling how Ed couldn't recognize that Duke wasn't a PG. He should have been on the wing from day 1, especially since we have no shooters. Easy move. I have seen zero court vision. If I had to actually watch more of White this year, I would have stroked out. 3 years in and outside of Butler in the Garden, I hate his game. He's given us nothing as a hole. Saint Mary's playing a walk on point guard. He'd start for us. If for no other reason he protects the basketball. I think it was more a case that Ed refused to recognize it. He had his mind set on DD as the PG.

I seem to recall Duke in his commitment statements saying one of the reasons he chose PC was that Coach Cooley said he could play the point from time to time. I don't think Cooley recruited him as a point, and instead was expecting MAL to improve and start at PG. I assume it became apparent early on that the expected improvement did not take place so Cooley went to Plan B.
It is obvious watching the tournament how much we need outside shooting and a PG who can handle the ball, penetrate and dish.

Point Guard was a problem all year. I believe the fact Duke played point most of the year will be beneficial to Duke"s and the teams development.

lack an efficient true PG...and boy did we miss so many open 3s all year...at times it was like yikes...if we made a few more likely a 20 win/on the bubble type season

Not well, Walk. Each coach has a different style and approach that they bring to the table.
While on the topic of Ed Cooley, today marks the 8th Anniversary of his being named Head Coach at PC.

So if you're Mal/Edwards/White - you're doing what today? If memory serves, this is how the Josh Fortune transfer started (the PG stuff was bs)...

MAL could move on. Edwards has said he is staying but who knows. Who would you want, 5th year UMass guard or MAL? Miracles could happen with MAL but....

I take pipkins over all three (but would've hoped for better)....but let's say it's him. I'd then reach out to the frosh PG that's leaving wvu (or a comparable frosh pg that needs to sit one and be with the program for 3 years). I've posted several times on white's stats vs duke's which may be interpreted as being "pro white". To be clear, I can't stand white's game. I like nothing about it except he does play hard when we're getting blown out. That said, the stats say he should have played more.

Yes, Cooley made his fair share of mistakes and I disagree with the way he is accepting accountability. It's up to him to learn from his mistakes, on and off the court. My biggest concern is an untimely defection, and I think it's on Cooley to make certain that doesn't happen again. Also, Cooley isn't Izzo and Cooley needs to continue to work to make himself a better coach, which he is doing. I do agree that Cooley should
I don't think it's fair to dismiss the progress that Nate Watson has made. In addition to his offense, he seems to be playing better defense. Starting next season, he should be a big part of the offense. Nate Watson's growth and development this season exceeded my own expectations.
I will agree with everybody that David Duke would have been a better playing off the ball, but that said, I never thought anybody came close to earning the role as point guard.
Makiek White had opportunities, and while I agree that he deserved more minutes, he was never able to grab the role and run with it. His performance in the BET reminded me that he's capable of contributing, and Cooley should be able to count on Maliek White to do more next season.
I hate to be negative, but I think we forget how bad MAL was early in the season. Playing MAL more would have buried any hope of the post-season far earlier this season. If it wasn't for Chief, I would be encouraged that MAL would work hard to earn more minutes next season, and I say that because MAL said the right things last off-season.
David Duke is not a natural point guard, but I do not believe that anybody on the roster did anything to bump him out of the rotation. DD had his limitations, but he was still better than our other options, and his presence was enough to give the team an outside chance of doing something. I disagree that he lacked/lacks awareness. I personally got the sense that trying to lead Cooley's offense limited his play making ability. I love his long-term ability.
This season was a disaster for Cooley. Cooley tried everything, but there were no solutions. All of the guards had the odds stacked against them because nobody on the team could hit a jump shot from anywhere on the court. I'm not sure where Cooley goes from here, but I think his plans should revolve around David Duke, AJ Reeves, Nate Watson and Jimmy Nichols.
I wouldn't be opposed to a 5th year guard, but I won't go as far as to say I want one. It will be very telling to see what Cooley does this off-season.

If he has recovered he is a good gamble in that he gets assists and scores. But his .28% from 3 would not help this team if he still has health issues. Supposedly he is plays hard defensively but is 5'8"
