15pts 12 boards 5 blocks. Our two haven't combined for those #'s He's averaging 5.1 pts, 5.6 rebounds and shooting 48% from the FT line in his 4th year in college. We'd be killing him on this board for those numbers. We're killing Nate Watson for 7.4 pts and 2.4 rbs as a freshman in 10 MPG less than Chukwu. I'd still take him in a heartbeat because our centers are terrible, but Bentil is the guy we are missing from that class. Drairf, Of course... your 100% right. My point is he had a game tonight that our guys have not had all year. He has also blocked shots in other games which we haven't seen at all in the black and white.

Bentil and you know who not coming close to his HS ranking....could've had Martin....
Actually defensively Bentil was pretty bad....just having chukwu around the basket would do wonders for us...

Look... The Chukwu stinks. But the fact that he can help us in some way, just shows how bad are options at the 5 are.

Back to back blocks first By Macura on Howard then Hauser on X but phantom foul on Hauser
Another great exciting Big East game.
Friars won’t be able to run with these two teams.

COMMENTARY PC, URI will face divergent roads Atlantic 10 is weak, while Big East looks formidable this year
KEVIN MCNAMARA THE SCOUTING REPORT
PROVIDENCE (9-4): The Friars hit the road for the start of Big East play with a trip to Queens. Their last five games in New York against St. John’s came at Madison Square Garden and resulted in a 4-1 record. PC’s last loss at Carnesecca Arena came in 2011…Diallo (ankle), Kyron Cartwright (ankle) and Maliek White (knee) continue to deal with injuries…Bullock made half of his team’s 20 field goals in a loss to Houston and 12 of 31 in a 89-75 win over Sacred Heart in last outing…Friars need to find ways to put points on board vs. St. John’s team that holds foes to 37 percent shooting. ST. JOHN’S (10-2): The Red Storm are off to their best start in coach Chris Mullin’s three seasons on the job. Best wins have come over Nebraska and Oregon State. Losses came to Missouri by eight and unbeaten Arizona State by 12…Current RPI is 19…Ponds went off for 28 points in the win over Saint Joe’s in last outing...Incoming transfers Simon and Clark are impact players…Starting guard LoVett is nursing a knee injury and is questionable. Without him, coach Mullin used just seven players in team’s last game…Storm finished 3-5 at MSG and 7-2 at Carnesecca Arena last year. EXTRA POINTS WHERE AND WHEN: Carnesecca Arena, 7 p.m. SERIES: St. John’s leads, 61-49. TV/RADIO: YurView/ WEEI (103.7 FM).
— Kevin McNamara
The stockings are emptied, the tree is tossed to the curb and we won’t look for reindeer over the State House for another year.
We also won’t see any more dogs disguised as major college basketball teams traipsing through the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. A few will still make their way to Kingston to face the Rams but the good news is conference play has arrived in college basketball.
Game on.
URI wrapped up its non-league schedule Wednesday with a win over Florida Gulf Coast . The Rams’ promising start (8-3) leads into the Atlantic 10 slate where Rhody opens with a two-game home stand against George Mason and La Salle.
The Friars can thank the Disney on Ice gods who’ve taken over the Dunkin’ Donuts Center for their opening walking papers in the Big East: at St. John’s, at Creighton.
We’re going to break down where both the Rams and Friars are right now, and what they need to do over the next two months, but what jumps out is just how different their upcoming tasks are. These two programs truly live in two different, separate worlds once Christmas hits.
Everyone in college basketball has the same desired destination — a spot in the NCAA Tournament — but travel very different roads to get there. This year, the NCAA has altered how it will assess teams and will no longer treat every game the same. Instead, road and neutral court wins will matter more than home victories. For example, a road win over a team ranked 135th is equal to a home win over team 75.
None of this new math should matter to the Rams, who are doing what they need to do to both return to the NCAAs and win their first-ever Atlantic 10 regular-season title. They top the league in the all-important Ratings Percentage Index (17th overall), knocked off a good Seton Hall team and, of course, beat the Friars for the first time in seven years.
That said, Dan Hurley’s guys had better prepare to do an awful lot of winning the rest of the way. The Rams have played four marquee games so far and finished 1-3 against so-called Quadrant 1 teams. That’s good for schedule strength but leaves the team short in high-quality wins needed to earn a strong NCAA seed. Due to the overall lackluster showing so far by A-10 teams, few opportunities are left to polish this resume.
Rhody’s season can progress in one of two ways. They can do the expected, win 14 or so league games and emerge as the league’s top team. That should secure an NCAA at-large berth but not with as much wiggle room as you’d expect.
The A-10 is in transition with standard-bearers Dayton and VCU adjusting to new coaches. Only St. Bonaventure (31st in RPI) joins URI in the top 50 and the Flyers (71st) are the only other top 100 team in the conference. Numbers change over the course of the season but right now Rhody is looking at just four of 18 league games (Dayton and St. Bonaventure twice) against top-100 teams. That’s obviously precious few chances to improve your resume (and Quadrant 1 wins) but also a lot of chances to stub your toe. No matter what their current RPI says, it won’t be easy to win at VCU
(109), La Salle (118), Davidson (171) or Massachusetts
(182) but the Rams will have to avoid “bad losses” as they hopefully roll through the conference.
Ed Cooley and the Friars have the opposite problem. While PC has the same record (2-3) as Rhode Island vs. Quad 1 and 2 teams so far, it has many more chances to polish an NCAA-worthy resume. The Big East currently has two of the top five (Xavier 2nd, Villanova 5th), four of the top 19 and eight of the top 65 teams in the RPI, so the Friars (52nd) face 16 of 18 conferences games against teams currently in the top 65.
That means the Friars will see plenty of chances to improve a resume that so far features only a good neutral-court win (over Washington) and two home wins (Belmont, BC) that could fall out of the top two Quads.
More importantly for the Friars — and unlike the Rams — is their current ability as a group. Injuries to Emmitt Holt at the start of the year and Kyron Cartwright, Alpha Diallo and Maliek White two weeks ago have hattered the team’s confidence. “Having all those guys in and out of the lineup has definitely hampered the consistency and continuity of the group,” Cooley said. “Hopefully we can get healthy right now and develop some chemistry and our rotation. That’s been difficult to deal with.”
Improved health and a key win or two could rekindle the Friars’ postseason dreams but unless Cartwright returns and plays like an All-Big East contender, PC can’t run with the upper echelon of the conference. “Every game in our league will be a monster,” Cooley said. “Excited about it, but nervous at the same time.”
