Cooley can't really say yes and then have the FBI come ask questions (or more questions)
Bunky can probably tie 100% of his non-Projo income to that 1st Pitino book.....

Agree Mick.
This is no time to be "holier than thou" or to throw stones. As this unfolds, and it will, all of college basketball AND the AAU recruiting cesspool will be under a microscope.
Short of outright buying players which this is, what else will be exposed? Point is we don't know but...
The NCAA, coming across here as toothless and clueless has to somehow take some responsibility. They nitpick on so much while this crap has been ongoing.

I guess in strictly legal terms Cooley would not know if a recruit he lost was bought and paid for...I mean like he didn't see the $$$ change hands.
However I would wager he has lost some kids who were paid for both at BC and at PC. He knows believe he knows but gave the right response.

Personally I have little faith in the FBI these days but I do have faith in American greed.
Hopefully this acting DA in Manhattan has fame and fortune as a personal goal...if so, this scandal is his ticket to treasure.
I don't count on "journalism"...that died in the 90s.
A decade ago the FBI could have exposed some unbelievable machinations with conference musical chairs and say the roles of espn and Swofford's ACC...but that horse left the barn.
My hope is that the Feds get more big name coaches but failing that, I hope those same coaches get sullied by Tip Line type reports of their misconduct. In short I want their family, friends and fans to know how flawed their character truly is AND just how they obtained their fame and fortune. Hopefully I get my wishes before some friggin DA moves on to ncaa FB where the big crimes have been committed.

www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/20848092/louisville-cardinals-basketball-coach-rick-pitino-coach-2-federal-complaint-source"Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino, who has been placed on unpaid administrative leave amid a federal investigation into fraud and corruption, is the "Coach-2" who played a role in funneling money to a recruit, a source confirmed to ABC News on Thursday. According to court records, Christian Dawkins, the former agent for ASM Sports who was charged in both parts of the college basketball case, told the cooperating witness, Marty Blazer, that he helped funnel $100,000 to the family of recruit Brian Bowen "at the request of a coach," identified as "Coach-2." CBS first identified Pitino as "Coach-2" on Thursday."

Of course, Pitino lawyer is denying any such conversations between Pitino and Gatto ever took place and,(if so), then the usual fallback of "has many conversations with many people" defense rolls into place - but please...
Interesting is the report that Louisville President Postel was pressuring Jurich to fire Pitino BEFORE any of these indictments/arrests even happened...

...and wtm that was coming directly from the Chairman of the Board Of Trustees...I thought the present Prez was the acting Prez
I read another report that the school itself is on the financial skids before this happened and the Yum Center wants higher rent
If I was Director Wray of the FBI I would send a hundred agents to Tobacco Road and in a week or two he would have dozens of new indictment
notches on his belt.

Billy Donovan on Rick Pitino's plight:www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basketball/news/louisville-basketball-rick-pitino-fired-scandal-fbi-billy-donovan-providence/1cimfhygj58iu1jv34etb15evp"I feel bad," Donovan said. "I wouldn't be standing where I am today without Coach Pitino, the investment he made in my life. I think the values and things that he taught me — I haven't spoken to him. I don't know all the things that are going on there, but him being a college coach and then working for him for five years, we've always remained very close, and I feel bad for all he's dealing with and Louisville is dealing with right now." And from a larger perspective (and after more than two decades as a college coach), Donovan also knows the widening federal investigation into fraud and corruption in recruiting is uncovering a situation that won't be easy to fix. "I think what you started to see over the last probably 15 years is a lot more of agents and people, sneaker companies getting involved with kids at a much, much earlier age," he said, "and it's a very difficult thing for the NCAA to police. … I don't know what the solution is, but it's really, really challenging for a lot of different variables."

OMG if the KORE MOD was AG he probably would shut down the investigation for fear of L'il Ole PC may have given a kid a box of popcorn or a cold water on a hot day. Let me remind you that WE are the Have-Nots and if a fan has some queasiness about their school's transgressions then they don't care about the sport.
We've been snitching around here for decades that the game was a joke in terms of integrity bec it was awash in dirty filthy money from dirty filthy bad actors. We MUST proceed full speed ahead and in the end wind up with a cleaner sport and a more legit ncaa to punish offenders. I even hope some ncaa officials get in big trouble for being complicit to these crimes by looking the other way. Just fantasize for a moment a few ncaa officials doing a perp walk in lower Manhatten...yeah I know too good to be true.
I urge all fans to not join the timid in refusing to admit what must be done...this is the best thing to happen to the game in 50 years. Imagine going way back to Johnny Wooden and UCLA dominance and some being so naive as to think the assembled superstars were not getting their palms greased? Well the vast majority still probably believe it was legit...that is before this week. Do not withdraw from this battle for the soul of the game. Instead pray brethren that agents are right now motoring on Tobacco Road to visit some other crooked schools and coaches...oh and crooked AD's and Commissioners who may have looked the other way.
Undaunted and Undeterred
