All the more reason why I want OSU's search to end quickly. Whether he interviewed or not, there's speculation, and Ed isn't going to come out and publicly declare that he has "no interest" (not smart from a career advancement perspective, nor wise if you're in fact a candidate)each and every time his name is speculated as being in the mix.
Ed has Fr. Shanley, Bob Discoll and what will become the Friar Development Center backing him and his capable Assistants who collectively, have his hometown Program on the verge of something truly special. With a number of top 2018 recruits in the balance, speculation that Ed's commitment through the next month (let alone the next 4-5 years) is "soft" doesn't help the cause.

Good for the Conference. Now it's Ed's turn to publicly state his love and high confidence in the Program he's building at PC!

Published (1) min ago: www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/creightons-greg-mcdermott-emerges-as-serious-candidate-to-coach-ohio-state/McDermott was meeting with Ohio State officials Wednesday night, according to ESPN.com. A source told CBS Sports whether McDermott will be offered the job was undetermined. But it should be noted that Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith has told two current Ohio State players he plans to have a new coach in place "before the weekend," according to The Columbus Dispatch. McDermott, 52, has been at Creighton since 2010 and taken the Bluejays to four NCAA Tournaments in seven years. He previously coached at Wayne State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa and Iowa State. His team was 25-10 last season. Earlier Wednesday, a source told CBS Sports that Chicago Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg was a serious candidate at Ohio State. And multiple sources said there was real interest on both sides. But Hoiberg effectively removed himself as a candidate later Wednesday, telling the Chicago Tribune: "Anytime your name is associated with a great job, it's an honor. But I'm [the] head coach of the Bulls [and] have no intention of leaving." Other possibilities at Ohio State include, but are not limited to, Virginia Tech's Buzz Williams, Butler's Chris Holtmann and Ohio State assistant Chris Jent -- the last of whom interviewed with Ohio State officials Wednesday, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Arizona's Sean Miller, Indiana's Archie Miller, Xavier's Chris Mack and Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan -- all of whom were initially listed as candidates by various media outlets earlier in the week -- are no longer candidates, a source told CBS Sports.

Wow.
With declarations that he planned on having a coach hired by the weekend, might it be possible that OSU's AD had no real plan in place, and struck out on a rather lengthy list of suitors before handing the keys over to Greg McDermott (who I regard as a very capable coach)? I'd be disappointed for Creighton and the BE, but guess that this would make it possible for friends (Cooley and McDermott) to enter into a home & home series against each other. That possibility and the Gavitt Games would result in a couple of games against Big10 programs.
Back to the AD for a moment, I just read several posts from OSU fans, and they don't appear to have a great deal of respect for their AD. Assuming for a moment that Ed Cooley did interview... from what I read (and understanding the esteem that he has for Bob Driscoll), the "fit" that he has with his current AD may have come into play (?).
Regardless, Kudos to Bob Driscoll (not to mention, Fr. Shanley) for his leadership and the bond that he's established with our great coach.
Footnote: After what I've read about the OSU-AD, 20% odds that McDermott rejects the offer/rescinds any "acceptance" once he gets back to the comfortable confines of Omaha, and Creighton's great fans.

So the OSU AD went to Omaha to meet with McDermott and apparently offered...if he accepts it should drop today. Cooley speculation was overblown per Columbus Dispatch.
The money and resources of OSU are obvious and undeniable yet the rebuild task is is huge. Anyone taking that on has a pair and deserves respect IMO. For McDermott to leave his "sold out" Creighton sinecure would be a prime example of such a move.

Regardless, Kudos to Bob Driscoll (not to mention, Fr. Shanley) for his leadership and the bond that he's established with our great coach. Add Leaman, Stewart, and all the other head coaches and staff to that list. What happens to the future of Friar Athletics will be interesting when Driscoll and Shanley leave. Certainly big shoes to fill when the time comes.
