Been watching the worldwide meddlers for 3 hours before I shut it down they have officially adopted uri as their Cinderella...almost unanimously saying they will beat Creighton and also Oregon necause the Ducks sustained that injury to a Big Saturday. funny thing is...I agree with them when do we start the thread speculating about Hurley leaving? Not buying it Dex. Most teams that have to win their tourney to get in, lose 1st round of NCAA. I say the lambs shed their wool in the A10 and will lose to Creighton.

URI didn't have to win tourney. Committee said they were going to Dayton if they didn't beat VCU.

Potential Upset Being Touted
11 Rhode Island over 6 Creighton
Creighton is a good team, but Rhode Island is coming in scorching hot. They’ve won eight in a row, including two wins over the Atlantic 10’s regular season champion VCU. They beat Cincinnati in November and stuck within ten of Duke a day later.
This was a team that entered the season with high expectations, and while it’s taken them a while, they’re healthy and peaking at the right time. They’re very strong defensively and forward Hassan Martin has developed into an excellent two-way player.
Creighton, on the other hand, look ripe for an upset. They’re 7-8 in their last 15 games, which coincides with point guard Maurice Watson’s season-ending ACL injury.
This is a shorthanded Creighton team that has not been playing well facing a streaking Rhode Island team getting hot and healthy at the right time.

Bill Koch's Article on URI Selection
NCAA Tournament: PC to play USC on Wednesday; URI to face Creighton on Friday
TWICE AS NICE
Rams capture A-10 title, automatic tourney bid as No. 11 seed in Midwest
By Bill Koch Journal Sports Writer
URI’s Jared Terrell, who finished with a game-high 20 points, shoots over VCU’s Jonathan Williams during the second half of Sunday’s Atlantic 10 Tournament title game on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
PITTSBURGH — Dust off those dancing shoes, Rhode Island fans.
Exactly 18 years to the day after playing their last NCAA Tournament game, the Rams have punched their ticket back to college basketball’s grandest stage.
URI left no doubt as to whether or not it should be included in the field of 68 by winning its second Atlantic 10 championship in program history, clinching the league’s automatic berth into March Madness. The Rams rode another blistering start and weathered some tight moments in the second half to defeat Virginia Commonwealth University, 70-63, at PPG Paints Arena on Sunday.
Lamar Odom and his teammates from the 1999 title winners finally have some company in the Ryan Center rafters. The bubble banter came to a swift and decisive end. Selection Sunday took on an air of jubilation as the clock ran out on what was the finest day to date of the five-year Dan Hurley era, as URI booked a place as a No. 11 seed in the Midwest Region and will face No. 6 Creighton Friday at about 4:30 p.m. in Sacramento.
“We just earned that trophy, and that’s because of the special group of guys that I got to coach here,” Hurley said. “A resilient, tough group of winners.”
E.C. Matthews made it a third straight outing of efficient offense on his way to tournament most valuable player honors, and Jared Terrell added the winning play at the defensive end that pushed the Rams over the top, a steal in a 68-63 game with 26 seconds to play. Matthews knocked down both ends of a 1-and-1 at the foul line to make it a three-possession game, and the small group of supporters behind the URI bench finally was able to let loose a cheer that drowned out the sea of VCU’s black and gold among the 7,025 on hand.
“We came here into the tournament on a roll,” Matthews said. “We took care of business. Made history.”
URI (24-9) trailed for just 43 seconds over the course of three games, blitzing VCU out of the gate on Sunday like it did St. Bonaventure and Davidson previously. The Rams powered out to a 29-12 lead by the 8:59 mark of the first half, connecting on five of their first six 3-point attempts and holding VCU to a miserable 4-for-20 start from the field. Hassan Martin’s flying dunk down the lane off a bounce pass from Terrell capped an ideal first 11 minutes.
“We played with a lot of confidence here because we were able to jump on people,” Hurley said. “We were able to jump on teams early.”
But it was never going to be that easy to knock out VCU (26-8), a program making its fifth straight title game appearance. VCU launched a 12-3 run after Martin and Kuran Iverson both went to the bench in foul trouble, trimming its deficit to 48-42 with 12:56 to play and forcing a URI timeout. VCU got it all the way down to 64-61 on an acrobatic drive by JeQuan Lewis with 1:17 left, as the senior guard finished with 13 of his team-high 15 points in the second half.
“They’re a great team,” Terrell said. “They’re going to make their run. It’s how you respond, and our guys responded very well.”
In stepped Matthews, who tossed in a runner down the left side to beat the shot clock with 53.4 seconds to play. It was part of a 19-point performance on 6-for-11 shooting, as the fourth-year guard ran his total to 58 points on just 31 shots in the tournament. Matthews hasn’t looked healthier — mentally and physically — at any point this season after the right knee injury that cost him almost all of 2015-16.
“We could have played that game last year, too,” Hurley said. “E.C. is a special talent.”
Terrell added a game-high 20 points, including two coldblooded free throws with 34.0 seconds left. But it was his theft on the ensuing VCU possession that effectively brought an end to this one, as he attacked through a screen at the left elbow and poked the ball away from a curling Lewis. Stanford Robinson dove to the floor to corral it and called a timeout, giving URI possession and firm control at last.
“I just knew they were going to him,” Terrell said. “He’s their go-to player. I just knew they were trying to get him a shot.”
The Rams cut down the nets with their ninth all-time NCAA bid already assured, a departure from the hand-wringing done all the way into Sunday morning about their at-large chances. URI’s players took it upon themselves to control their own destiny, something that looked unlikely following a 53-43 loss to Fordham on Feb.
15. The Rams left their home floor at the Ryan Center to a smattering of boos on that night, the exact opposite they received when they returned to Kingston late Sunday night as champions.
“We definitely lost a little hope with some of the games we lost,” Martin said. “But the way we bounced back to come out and win this championship today just feels great.”
