He has played really well the last several games. He has become a double double machine. For a guy of his height and bulk, he rebounds really well, often against bigger guys. He had a huge 3 and two outstanding tip ins to spark the late game heroics today. His defense is also under appreciated by some.
On a side note,I was fortunate enough to sit next to Rodney's Mom at the game in Omaha. She was very nice and really into the game. She was as excited as anyone with the win over the Bluejays!!

Do you expect him to return next season? LOL...now I'm not so sure. I like the last two weeks Rodney. A lot.

On a day when KC and Holt were mediocre at best, Rodney put the team on his back and worked his butt off. I've come around recently to hoping he returns. Sure he can frustrate us but he's not soft and except for his hands, the rest of him works well. Some of you naysayers like walk and friarman and yank need to eat some crow like Dex. 10 rebs don't grow on trees you know
...speaking of eating crow, I am also getting close to a helping with Isaia Jackson. He really doesn't do a lot of things well...in fact maybe nothing at this point BUT he seems to be on the floor doing things when we start to click lately. He's growing on me..that's what contributing to wins can do to me.

Like you, I'm eating a bit of crow myself regarding Rodney. He's had two solid games in a row. Cooley has rested him more and Rodney has improved his shot selection and lowered the volume of shots taken. And Jackson has jump-started our 2nd half rallies. We need a nickname for Isaiah. "The Jury", "Action", "The Judge" anyone else want to chime in? PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!

Rodney has 3 straight double doubles
Thems the facts boys
Meanwhile the work Alpha is getting bodes well for his confidence in the future
us armchair gurus need to STOP and THINK for a second
Imagine how difficult it is for a wide-eyed freshman to perform every single play with 13K screaming fans living and dying with your every move...and every move could mean the game's fate
It can't be easy...did you see him tie up that PG at midcourt without fouling?
Yes the confidence begins with an Alpha or for that matter a Jalen confident that they can defend the best of their opponents players
Then it bleeds to their play on offense and in time Voila You have a keeper.
It helps when your mates and coach respect that usually unsung work defending and rebounding...or blocking out so one of your mates get the board
Watch that last offensive shot in the FBC 7 minute video and offensive rebound attempt by Marquette and see the physicality and desire to prevent the putback
Wojo was screaming but it was just sheer desire from both team's players

Speaking of Jalen, he caught my attention on a couple of baskets yesterday: One was a sweat give and go, where he cut to the basket for the return pass and an uncontested layup; The second was a jumper off the dribble in traffic that he connected on.
Both demonstrated that he's more than capable of being more than a stationary shooter. I'd like to see more of this out of him, and don't think that it's too much to expect from the Junior.
Perhaps, he's building whatever confidence is necessary to expand his oft-limited, offensive repertoire

Ran him off a couple screens as well...
Thought we played really well for most of the game and couldnt believe we were going to lose...and then we didn't.

I really like the lineup we used for the final 5 minutes of Cartwright, Diallo, Jackson, Lindsey and Bullock. Rodney does his best work close to the basket, and while we lack a true big man, we have a lot of length and athleticism and can switch nearly all screens if we want. It also provides mismatches on offense if a team wants to keep a traditional big in the game. We of course sacrifice interior heft and would have a hard time stopping a great big man. However, so few teams have a low post threat, so I don't think that is really a concern. We also could be susceptible on the glass, but Rodney, Jalen and Alpha all board very well and we don't get much from Holt there anyway.
I think this lineup should be used for a few minutes in each half. We used it for the final three minutes of the first half against Creighton and it got us back in the game as we out scored them 6-0. It of course also worked very well yesterday down the stretch. I think we get favorable matchups and it really frees up Rodney to maximize his strengths.

It does, though, expose Bullock to more fouls on the defensive end. I think it was effective yesterday because their bigs were in foul trouble. But they certainly can use it when Bullock does not have foul concerns
