Wow.... I was wrong about him. I wouldn't even invite him to training camp after his display in Vegas....
I had hoped he wasn't playing defense at PC to stay out of foul trouble.
He just doesn't play defense.
I've watched most of the summer league games and he just looks lost on both sides of the floor.

I'm personally disappointed for Ben.
We will never know whether another year at PC would have allowed him to develop and refine some of the weaknesses in his game, to the point where he would have been a more complete player entering what is projected to be a deeper, 2017 Draft pool.
Then again, he had two years of eligibility that he left on the table when he entered the draft. Who knows, with the addition of Young and Dickens, he might have been able to shift out to the wing for a full season as a senior, in preparation for (a weaker?) 2018 draft...while graduating.
There. I'm over it. For ever number of reasons, it wasn't meant to be.
I'll root for Ben, but recognize that it's time to move on.

It's pretty easy to second guess Ben's choice to go pro. I agree with your points 82. And like 88 said, a lot of people thought Ben was soft on D because he didn't want to foul out. Maybe that just wasn't the case.

I wish we could all stop saying the '17 draft is loaded and the '16 wasn't. This is simply not the case. The '17 draft was thin at the top but incredibly deep. The '17 draft appears to be the opposite. Ben would have been better served to avoid the deeper, draft & stash inventory of the '16 draft. I said that beforehand and I'm sticking by it. I even saw a couple of analytical reviews showing the projected PER (and similar metrics) for incoming players in the '16 draft to be the highest median average of any draft in a decade.
In a prior post I laid out the roster challenge Ben has in store for him in Boston and it is a steep one, to say the least. He's facing a season in Maine, playing with the World B Free wannabees of basketballs Nike Tour - and he'll do it in front of crowd sizes that would leave seats open at Alumni; TV coverage with the broadcast viability of ESPN 12 on a dial-up connection....with rabbit ears.
We aim for win/win and as was the case with Ricky Ledo , we end up with lose/lose.

I will have a difficult time being pleased to read how he scored 30 points in a game in Albania...he may carve out a nice living but we may never know what a little patience could have done for him...and us. i think many here knew in our hearts that staying in the draft was a serious mistake on Ben's part....
As for those experts on Twitter who were confidently predicting that Ben would be a late first-rounder, I simply wonder if they understand that the game is played at both ends of the floor...Marshon, Ricky and Ben can all put the ball in the hoop but the game is much broader than a little flash with the ball...
Stay in school...learn the game from both sides...be patient...embrace hard work...and benefit from maturity...easy words to type but I fully understand that they pale in comparison to the allure of NBA riches and the shtick of self-serviing agents...sadly, we will see Ben's mistake made by another Friar in the future.

Staff let him do pretty much anything he wanted which formed some bad habits. The kind of physical D he now has to face, must feel like vice on his hips.
Does a team even bother with a 2nd rd choice they feel needs a complete revamping. I don't think so? But hey, he led the BE in scoring.

The two international picks for the Celtics are going to be stashed - one at home in Croatia, (?), and one in China.
Unless packaged, (and then probably discarded), in a trade looks it like Ben will be heading to Maine and the Celtics D-league team. Read somewhere that Stevens "likes" him and that is a good thing because so far he has looked really lost out there.

Entirely different than ledo....1) Ben came to pc to play college basketball. 2) Ben was never going to grow to the metrics of an nba 4 which is really the only position he can play. The draymond green comparisons are foolish. you don't play four years at msu without playing defense. I know their college offensive numbers were compared in a prior post. I'd be curious to know the difference in shots taken. Ben needed a ton of shots and we had no options so it worked. Ben at least got drafted. No guarantee ledo would have had he stuck around.
