Are we still desperately missing Simon on the staff like some wanted to believe?
Recruiting is trending upward again for sure, and 24 wins last season was the best yet under Cooley and I'd argue it was a more flawed team than the past two... Interesting since some made it seem like he was pulling all the weight around here when it came to recruiting and in game coaching.
As usual, Cooley proves the doubters wrong...just like he has since day 1, yet the doubters will continue to doubt!!!!

I think the loss of Simon hurt last spring and fall. I can't quantify that other than to reasonably conclude that Bob had deep relationships built along the four years he was here and when he left, so too did any shot at accessing that pipeline. Thus we ended up with the Smith's and Council's of the world. A year later, that smoke has begun to clear and now perhaps Battle and ultimately the new guy on the road can start building and converting on their pipelines.

Yes we miss Simon. Can't help but think it had some imoact on the chukwu transfer and while we've got a nice commitment today, he's borderline and our only top 100.....
Even Watson who I desperately want is closer to 150....

And kick the Simon can down the road ... permanently. White, Holt & Diallo is HUGE. Throw in Jackson and we've got an athletic team not seen at PC in awhile. Add Ben coming back (I think he will) and a big man (Young will do) and we're back dancing and looking for the Sweet Sixteen. If only Ben, we're still dancing and out of the 8/9 spot. And I haven't even started drinking yet tonight. But I will toast Ed and Alpha!!! PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!

I agree him leaving hurt temporarily, but some were acting like it was going to be the end of Cooley or his downfall.
Dickens, Holt, Diallo are our last 3 commits. Very good for PC standards...and we seem be looking good for 2017 if we can make the room...Our 2016 class plus Jackson is sneaky good, and a really good class for PC standards.

Drop that line "for PC standards". Ancient history. This ain't Western Civ. We're dealing with the present and the future. No more overachieving. With ED, we've come to expect great things. Bob Simon was a major asset yet he was replaced by Jeff Battle - a highly regarded/respected recruiter and senior assistant coach. Now Andre has moved on yet we have Ivan Thomas to step in to replace...
See all this as an earmark of a successful program.
First our staff is wanted by others and second we are able to plug in high quality additions who compliment what Ed Cooley intends to accomplish.
So we move forward - in good hands- with a plan that is evolving ...imagine that - we have a plan!!

I know it's early with Ivan just being added to the staff but the fact that he was able to land Dickens in a non recruiting role speaks volumes to what he could potentially bring. Now that we have finally gotten a New England prospect we may start to consistently have top 20-25 classes recruiting wise if we can keep up this momentum and with the new facility. The loss of Simon hurt temporarily like many have said and Ed did a good job holding things down considering we had to start from scratch on some recruits. Hopefully over the next couple of classes we can purge the roster and bring in the type of talent to annually challenge for conference titles and final four appearances.

Sneaky good class?
Its either good or it isnt. Bottom line is white needs to play above his ranking for this to be a good class. Even if diallo doesnt we have plenty of options at the 3 where if he isnt playing someone else has probably stepped up. Figuring holt will be solid.

I say sneaky good because fans of other teams will see two top 150 players, but underrate the addition of Holt and forget about Jacskon. I think Holt makes the biggest impact...Cooley must see Diallo as a two.

As I said it's what you do on the court, not what some wannebe now "scout" says your ranking should be. Time will tell but I'm liking our direction. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!

These are the same doubters that thought we would never recover from losing Pat Skerry. Then they went into hysterics when Driscoll left. Having a great staff is important. Having said that, no one is more important than the HC. You can have the best assistants in the country. But if you don't have a HC that can close, than its worth as much as boobs on a bull. Luckily we have that HC.

So true MOD...in fact, Battle would have been the Wake Forest HC if he wasn't dealing with personal family issues. I only wish he was 34 instead of 54
