There is no new `news' that Kris Dunn is going to the @nba Draft. He and Ed Cooley have said so for months. The only story is Ben Bentil

Sounds about right:
"And overall, I'd say it was mission accomplished for Dunn. He's improved his game marginally through the course of the 2016 season, and looks poised to be a top-10 pick when the draft comes around in June.
Unlike many around him during what's been an unusual season, his stock largely held steady the whole way. He entered the season as the No. 5 player on CBS Sports' preseason NBA Draft big board, and he'll exit it at No. 6. Overall, that means he did everything that was expected of him coming into the season."
It was not an easy season for him, but in the end, I am glad it worked out and I am happy that he got a NCAA tourney win.

As important as he was as a player, his significance to our program will grow exponentially in the NBA...find some consistent balance on the jumper and this young man will be a star...
His poise in front of a microphone and camera is remarkable to me...I hope he becomes a superstar but if fate dictates otherwise, he's a guy who will still have a great future...

Totally agree Conn, and I will expand on that a bit. We have seen with many recruits such as Mitchell and Gabriel that they love Coach Cooley and develop a closer relationship with him than any other coach, but ultimately eschew PC and big Ed for the bright lights of a bigger school. And those two spurned us AFTER we had brought in some top 100 talent and were establishing ourselves as a successful national program. Kris Dunn was so enamored with Coach Cooley that he committed to Providence at the lowest point in our program's history without any hesitation.
Throughout his 4 years at PC, all he did was talk up how much he loved the school, the city, the fans and the community at large. He did this with a grace and maturity far beyond his age and given all that he has overcome in his life, it just makes that fact even more remarkable. He suffered 2 major shoulder injuries and lost his mother in his first 3 semesters at PC, and those events came after all of the hardships he experienced prior to arriving at Smith Hill. Those things alone would ruin most 19 year old kids, but not Kris. Instead, he watched and learned how Bryce Cotton led a team so that he could become a better leader and player. He also kept up with his school work and never lost sight of pursuing his degree.
I remember a few years ago UCLA won a game on a buzzer beater and their star player, Shabazz Muhammad famously sulked since he wasn't able to take the last shot. Kris hit a buzzer beater of his own against Creighton this year and then spent the post game interview talking about how much he loved his teammates, his school and college basketball. When PC found itself down 1 with 3 seconds to go against USC, it was no secret that Kris was going to get the last shot, the most important shot to be taken in recent PC history. Instead, Rodney Bullock played the hero and how did Kris celebrate? First of all, he immediately looked up at the clock and played defense to ensure PC hung on for the win. Once the final buzzer sounded, he was the first person to reach Rodney and give him a hug. After going through the handshake line, he again put his arm around Rodney and celebrated with him.
I really don't think it can be stressed enough just how fortunate we were to have Kris at PC. Ben Simmons took a lot of heat for not taking LSU to the tourney and is now being criticized for even attending the school. This will only make it even more difficult to attract top talent at places that aren't Duke, Carolina, Kentucky, etc. We have seen countless coaches talk about changing a culture and building a program, but more often than not they fail because it is extremely hard to do. Coach Cooley is doing that here and has done so by bringing in more talented players and developing them as players and people. None of that would be possible if it wasn't for Kris. It took a very special and courageous kid to have that kind of trust in Ed and PC and be willing to let himself become the face of a program when he could've gone to a more established school with a track record of putting players in the NBA.
Kris Dunn put PC back on the basketball map, and for that we should all be incredibly thankful. He was a terrific ambassador for the school and I am sure will continue to be going forward as well. Any success he achieves down the road will be well earned, and I personally hope he experiences a lot of it. Any success PC continues to have on the court will be attributed to him, and for that Friartown will forever be indebted. In short, thank you Kris Dunn and best of luck in the future!
