I really really don't follow recruiting much these days. In reading the recruiting Board I must say I am not overly impressed ...but I must also say this Staff is by far the most secretive I have ever encountered. I do think if Cooley could procure some stars he would brizz to get it done. If we choke there is no hope in my estimation of procuring those stars.
Even though we have a flawed team because of recruiting misses, errors and defections, I have acknowledged that we can possibly win enough games to Dance based on our schedule. That would be so great because it would help a little in recruiting AND keep the national media off our azz...the tip of that iceberg is starting to yelp a little as I feared in recent posts.
I think it was walk that wondered how Cooley could possibly have thought this is his best shooting team ever when they are ranked at the bottom of every conceivable list. I agree...perhaps they get stage fright when the lights go on...I don't know but it is quickly ruining our season.
we are all in shock about how this whole thing has apparently gone south. As draif intimated, we might not be able to reset the roster because we may not be able to get better players. However, if we don't Dance a reset of the Staff would be likely methinks.

Dex, I would say the recruiting is a bit concerning since the Bentil class in comparison to teams in our league (Nova, MU, Creighton, SJU, Xavier, SH, GTown). Many don't think recruiting rankings matter, but I say play the law of averages and they do. Our conference mates are ringing the Top 100 bell and we are not.
After landing Austin and then the Bentil/Lindsey/Chukwu class, I didn't think recruiting was going to be of any concern.

any correlation with Ed doing the national thing instead of recruiting in the summer?
If you could get Diallo as a frosh for lamomba you'd have to do it. Next year is a throw away without a Damien lee type transfer and a 5 like the kid from Charlotte who transferred to Illinois...

If you could get Diallo as a frosh for lamomba you'd have to do it. Yes, but he could replace someone else besides Lomomba. And then Lomomba's ship is freed up for 2017.

Someone says this every year around this time and in the off-season...I really don't understand it. IMO, with Bentil and no key defections, we are one capable big away from being in solid shape to make a 4th straight NCAA appearance...we aren't missing this year, but If we lose tomorrow I will be worried... Player development has been tremendous, and we haven't seen Jackson or White yet. Bentil would be an absolute force next year...I think we will be better.

We're always at least one capable something away...that's why it's been 19 years since we've won a tournament game.

I think we need to pump the breaks on player development and talent evaluation. I guess the frosh get a pass but Jr and Bullock have been with this program for three years now and the sophs are marginally improved but still way behind many sophs in the BE.
Key defections 94? Who's considered key outside of Ben?

Key defections meaning we can't lose guys who are expected to play meaningful minutes next year...I see Zeke, Edwards, Lindsey, Cartwright, Bullock, and Bentil as guys we need to stick around. Add Jackson and White, I think we have another possible NCAA team if we get some size to help Bullock and Bentil.
You can't deny our guard development has been great. Sham probably gets a lot of credit, but we also have a guard heavy coaching staff who have coached multiple great guards....Lomomaba was probably a reach, but he is a lot better now than he was last year...Even a kid like Fortune, I think his game benefited greatly from his time here...I think a kid like Edwards will do very well with the current staff, plus Sham..
As for our sophomores, KC and Lindsey aren't there yet, but Bentil may be the most improved player in the country. Gotta count for something.

I did some looking at the past two seasons in the revamped BE.
In Cotton/Batts year from 1/30 - 2/10 Friars went 1-4 losing 3 in a row. They finished 4-2 the rest of the way losing to Nova and Creighton (ugh remember that game).
Last year from 1/31 - 2/11 they went 1-3, then finished the season 5-1.
This year from 1/26 - 2/10 they are 1-4.
Is a pattern forming with late January, early Feb. swoons? Or is it just how the schedule lines up? Kind of strange. Question is can this team pull off a 4-2 or 5-1 ending like the last two with a tougher schedule? (road games at Seton Hall and Xavier, and GTown tomorrow).
Guess we'll begin to find out starting tomorrow.

If this epic collapse continues to fruition, we will have a much bigger problem then not making the ncaa's. The national media is just starting to get on to the story of what could be the worst collapse in the history of college basketball. The articles would be devastating to a Program with two superstars and a coach supposedly on top of the world until being bounced from top 11 rankings twice and then completely out of the rankings and the Dance. As for Cooley, should the present death spiral continue, you can expect him to be characterized as unable to surround his stars with even average players and then you will read the word that nobody ever wants to hear their coach described with.... CHOKE Well we won't have to worry about him being distracted as Head Coach of the Junior Olympic team. If you think recruiting has dried up nowadays, well we better start winning or we can expect a total bottoming-out for a long time. That CHOKE term is a death knell in sports IMO. OK so let's beat the Hoyas and hope Cooley and his players find a way to Dance because we will own Cooley for a long long long time and we sure don't want him tainted in any way by the national press. One and Done is a lofty NCAA goal in my view right now...imagine 4 weeks ago the sky was the limit. You're better than this, dex. I know you are. We'll probably win on Saturday and we'll likely finish our last 6 games with 4-5 wins. Earlier this year it was pointed out that the early and mid part of our BE schedule was the toughest. I believe that and hope/expect that I am right about our last few games. And I will bet anyone on this board that we Dance. Fifty bucks. To make the bet official, all monies must be in wtm97's hands by tipoff Saturday. C'mon all you wagon-jumpers. Let's put your money where your mouths and fingers are. dex, you in? PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!! Well .... I met with wtm97 (and dex as a witness) just before tipoff as promised yesterday. Guess what. wtm97 reported that no board member contacted him. All that bluster from the Negative Nancies and the Miserables resulted in NOT ONE OF THEM taking me up on my wager. After all that talk after Marquette, not one of them would put up $50 bucks to back up their statements that we would not dance. I'm not surprised. It's easy to sit home and type out caustic comments about our Friars. But while we still have 5 regular season games to play, we WILL DANCE. NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!!
