Like I said the national press is catching on to Cooley's woes...specifically the lack of talent he brought in...we need to win a couple or 4 fast before this narrative really gets going espn.go.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0489264687624493386-4Jeff Goodman ESPN Insider Providence coach Ed Cooley was worried about his team's psyche coming into this one. Now may be at Red Alert level. Friars lose at Marquette and now face Georgetown back home -- where they are 1-4 in last five at The Dunk. Ed Cooley did masterful job hiding deficiencies early, but lack of talent around Dunn and Bentil evident now.

Goodman is right. How many of our 3-8 guys start for DePaul? It's two vs the world, and for the 1st 22 games the two were beating the world at a very high rate. Since then, the world has started to figure out how to stop player 1, by throwing a pressure, double and triple teaming defense at him, thus forcing 2 and 3-8 to try and beat them. 2 being on one leg, has done well, but the difference needs to come from 3-8 and they have proved to be incapable.

player 1 has been playing like crap for a while and it was overlooked with some late game bail outs. And if 3-8 can't play in this league, what does that say about our coach and his talent evaluation skills? About a month ago the legendary rock listed all players recruited by cooley and the number of misses was one or two.
Margin of error is so small that we're way overblowing this as a meltdown. Dunn hits FTs last night and it's 180 degrees different..bentil's three for which he had no business having the opportunity to even take for the win goes down and we're praising the team even though they played like crap...
I'm disappointed our coach went away from what worked for PC to showcase dunn and it's backfired for team. How he saw us as a good shooting team is beyond me....that and our last possession in regulation.

If this epic collapse continues to fruition, we will have a much bigger problem then not making the ncaa's. The national media is just starting to get on to the story of what could be the worst collapse in the history of college basketball. The articles would be devastating to a Program with two superstars and a coach supposedly on top of the world until being bounced from top 11 rankings twice and then completely out of the rankings and the Dance. As for Cooley, should the present death spiral continue, you can expect him to be characterized as unable to surround his stars with even average players and then you will read the word that nobody ever wants to hear their coach described with.... CHOKE Well we won't have to worry about him being distracted as Head Coach of the Junior Olympic team. If you think recruiting has dried up nowadays, well we better start winning or we can expect a total bottoming-out for a long time. That CHOKE term is a death knell in sports IMO. OK so let's beat the Hoyas and hope Cooley and his players find a way to Dance because we will own Cooley for a long long long time and we sure don't want him tainted in any way by the national press. One and Done is a lofty NCAA goal in my view right now...imagine 4 weeks ago the sky was the limit. You're better than this, dex. I know you are. We'll probably win on Saturday and we'll likely finish our last 6 games with 4-5 wins. Earlier this year it was pointed out that the early and mid part of our BE schedule was the toughest. I believe that and hope/expect that I am right about our last few games. And I will bet anyone on this board that we Dance. Fifty bucks. To make the bet official, all monies must be in wtm97's hands by tipoff Saturday. C'mon all you wagon-jumpers. Let's put your money where your mouths and fingers are. dex, you in? Veritas...
hey, any of the sharpshooters threes fall,... Even Ben's missed freethrows, Lomomba's,...anyone hitting two rather than one out of two free throws.... margin so slim between defeat and victory.... How about the two points the ref took off the board from Cartwright"? Was it a travel, I watched it four times and thought he took two steps on the drive while in control of his dribble... Those two points were the difference as well.
... but later the ref "missed" (swallowed his whistle) when Cartwright? fouled the last attempt by Marquette thereby keeping Marquette from winning the game with little to no time remaining....
Did Dunn foul each of those five calls? Don't know. Maybe the ref(s) let something else go earlier. Fischer (sp) fouled out as well. His absence gave PC a better chance to win...

Thought Dunn had a clean steal toward the end of OT and they called a foul. That could have helped avoid OT. However, Dunn regularly commits undisciplined fouls so I don't see that changing.
Bentil also missed a layup on a drive that he'd normally hit.
Game really could have been a win.

"Game really could have been a win." True draif and no question any win for this krew is huge right now but I still would have said we are not a good basketball team. We let frosh and sophs play us even...or I should say play Ben even.
How many Friggin ways must one say we have two great players PERIOD? Goodman said today what I have been saying for weeks as well as a few others.
It's tragic that for one reason or another we could not surround Ben and Kris with at least some ready to win players.
In my previous post in this thread I say : "..should the death spiral continue..." but my pal Thump must have missed that caveat.
Yet I heard his caveat loud and clear...."We'll probably win on Saturday and we'll likely finish our last 6 games with 4-5 wins."
Probably and Likely No Sh!t and if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle...back in the old days that is

Exactly...I think we get back into the transfer business...would like to see two from legit programs...
Did they change the 5th year rule? I'd take one of those for bentils sake...add white and two more frosh...I really don't care who goes. Would prefer fazekas and edwards stick around...and I guess bullock, Lindsey Cartwright....this is not to knock the other players but how bad must they be practicing to not get a sniff of minutes this year...

I was almost going to post the players I'd like to see stick around, and I was going to start with Fazekas and Edwards. Agree on Bullock, Lindsey and Cartwright - already a lot invested in them and we need some experience. Bringing Lomomba back could make sense as we are not going to find 4 impact guys and he brings maturity and experience to the team. The guys who are literally not seeing the floor, I don't know what to make of that. We still have Dunn's ship open for one more player. I think the 5th year player option is still available as of now, but it might change. Agree, grab a 5th year Center for Bentil.
