As the entire pay tv model is collapsing around networks, not just Disney, who knows how we will be able to view the games from afar in the next contract.
Maybe this is the best deal the Big East will ever have.

I remember him telling Marge to quiet down... I doubt anyone tells Marge when to speak or not.
Patsos seems like the right man for the job presently.
Cannot worry about Fran who will land on his feet elsewhere if he has been canned. Didn't he meet large Marge at ND while he was coaching? Was she a player or a coach then too?
Speaking of ND, one of the schools I loved as I child, but have grown to abhor over the years.
I always root for the MAAC team in the NCAA. They earned that spot..

Yep - Fran had to tell Marge to "shut up" after she spoke out (from the media seats) in order to slam the referees during a post game conference. She was also ejected from a Siena game - during the game - by referees on one occasion. Fran did meet Marge while he was an Assistant and she was a student athlete at ND. Regarding Jimmy - who I enjoy on a person level, the Siena crowd is getting restless and wants wins over entertainment. Key for Jimmy (in my mind) is recruiting and player development - as Siena has every other advantage over teams in the MAAC. Hope he can turn the corner, as the fan base continually harken back to Mike Deane's miracle run, Paul Hewitt's post season wins, and the run that Fran had. In short - they've been spoiled a few times into assuming that the Saints should be a perennial contender. And speaking of ND... the Friar Icemen are currently playing the Fighting Irish on NBCSN (if you have it)

I live about 15 minutes north of Siena, so I am quite familiar with Siena and have attended the MAAC tourney many times.
Random related tidbit: I attended a Fairfield Siena game during Welsh's final season, so either late 2007 or early 2008. This was during the three year stretch where Siena dominated the league and won 2 games in the NCAA tourney. Fairfield won in a truly ugly game where the final was like 52-50. I remember being very impressed with the Fairfield coach as his team had about 30% of the talent and yet won the game because he completely outmaneuvered Frannie, who I never really liked. I didn't know anything about that head coach that night, but I was very impressed with him and wondered if PC had their eye on him as a possible replacement to Welsh who everyone knew was going to be ousted. Hard to believe that was 9 years ago and for Ed, about 150 pounds ago.

I attended a Welsh v. Cooley contest in Bridgeport when PC squeaked out the win. My first live witness of a Cooley team that probably should have gotten the win that night. Perhaps the powers that be noticed him that night.
I have seen nothing of Fan Mccaffrey having been relieved of his head coaching position....
Perhaps those are alt-facts that I've been hearing.

The landscape has changed and the ridiculous high cost of cable tv is undergoing the cord cutting response from a viewing public who is saying louder and louder I am not paying north of $150/month for content I do not want nor watch.
At $7 a pop ESPN is a driving force behind much of the endlessly escalating costs. The pressure to provide affordable ala carte programming will only become more compelling as consumers not only say no but find ways around the entertainment world to avoid static costs.
The relevance of ESPN programming has peaked and most have no compelling reason to tune in save live sports coverage which is expensive for sure but...
The notion of a lefty leaning sports channel is ludicrous at best- and hardly helpful. Point is, most sports viewers probably find any posturing by them to be annoying at best; and obviously some find it out of line enough to say " screw this"... so now they are on a slippery slope of disengagement. Those declining numbers are quite alarming and how to stop the bleed is a serious challenge.
Continuing to spout political BS won't help. They should stick to sports and try desperately to find the next Stuart Scott - as it is right now they have nobody...

Good stuff wtm
espn will adjust to the new realities going forward but will struggle until some of their huge longer term content buys expire.
They don't have a single competitor with clout but rather a cluster of emerging competitors and alternate avenues for the viewer.
One would think that sooner or later professional sports leagues will feel the pinch. However it may not happen anytime soon because people
want and need entertainment as a break from the daily grind. They certainly ain't getting it from the rot that Hollywood currently produces.
