strange as it seems, the coaching staff had no idea and I talked to a player yesterday who confirmed the team had no idea. Josh's mother thoight/thinks he can be an NBA point. That's what Josh told Coach when he walked in to his office. Speculation vs quote. PIZZA, SODA, GRINDERS!!! I'm pretty sure it was mentioned on this board last year after Fortune left that he wanted to play point. Cooley just confirmed the rumour. It doesn't matter this team found a way last year to get by without outside shooting and they will find a way to get by with 2 1/2 big men. We may have to play like Nova did in the early 2000's and hope some guys grow up.

californiafriar.weebly.com/Open Letter to Paschal Chukwu 5/25/2015 Dear Paschal, Forgive the open letter, but know that it comes with the best of intentions and Friar fans are passionate. Here’s some unsolicited advice in your next round of looking at colleges: Include PC in your selection process: Human nature is to want to move on once you make a decision, but don’t make that mistake - leave all of your options on the table which includes considering Providence College. Athletes do this all the time -- re-open their recruitment and include the school they originally committed to (Chris Obekpa announced he was transferring last year, then "stepped away from the ledge" and came back to have a great season). Part of the reason you have decided to look at other schools is that the stakes are high for you (family in Nigeria, need to make NBA, one shot at this etc). That is all the more argument to not rule out PC after you look at some other options. Whatever decision you will make will be based on thin data (a couple of weeks) vs. the 3-4 years spent considering and then playing for PC. There are risks with making such a large decision on such thin data. You will certainly know the reputation of the school’s program (and have great choices), you will know the coach (from a distance), the players - not really (and presumably won’t meet many/any of them in this process). Go through the process and weigh way what you know with PC (good and bad) vs. all the unknowns you won’t be able to answer in a hyper-condensed recruitment period -- there are risks with those unknowns and there are no more second chances on this decision. Playing time: if one of your issues was a lack of playing time, I respectfully disagree. I think you came along great this year given that you have still been playing organized basketball only a relatively short time, came from a high school program that didn’t run a lot of sets (“run and gun”), and generally it takes centers a bit longer to develop. The jump to college is big for athlete and student alike regardless. Look deep inside yourself (watch all the games) and ask yourself if you should have played 20 MPG. Your model should be Dikembe Mutombo. Dikembe averaged 11 mins per game (MPG) his freshman year (you averaged 10). His sophomore and junior seasons he jumped to 26 MPG and 35 MPG and the rest is history. You are set up well to follow his path. Play 20+ MPG at PC next year and obviously there is only one school in the NCAA that you can get playing time next year (and a lot of it to boot)-- a critical (if not obvious) point that should not be disregarded as you weigh the pros and cons of leaping somewhere else. If your goal is quickest path to NBA, playing time is a key factor and getting next year under your belt with 20+ MPG will dramatically increase the chances that you don’t play your senior year of college (and go to the NBA). You sit out next year, I believe your chances are minimized of you going to the NBA by your senior year. The year off will help you get bigger (but if you’re focused, you can walk and chew gum at PC-- get big and play). For a guy who needs basketball experience more than anything to make up for his inexperience, I think that benefit of a year off is less valuable than playing time a lot of minutes with high exposure nationally (scouts watching Kris Dunn, you, etc). Look at yourself in the mirror and ask when you made the decision. Was it at the end of the season or was it when you went home. Great article last year on transfers noted that many happen when they get home to their handlers and folks whisper in their ear -- insight from Mike Brey at Notre Dame. Are YOU 100% comfortable with the decision? Bob Simon: If Bob Simon leaving was a factor, I agree that he was a great guy and big loss. However, he was destined to leave soon anyway. We now have Jeff Battle who might actually have the chance to be an upgrade (with no disrespect to Simon) and give you an interesting new perspective on the NBA based on the players he has helped get their Chris Paul, Teague, etc. For your new school, you will presumably have had zero relationship with the assistant other than a few calls/meetings in a 3 week period -- hard to get to know what someone is all about. By the way, Blaney, Shammgod, Jackson, LaFleur don’t seem to be a bad bunch of guys and you at least know them. Coach Cooley: Coach Cooley is the real deal, truly good person, but he has to be a coach too. Don’t let his coaching -- yelling at you, taking you out of games, etc negate the vision he had (and still would like to have) of you being a star at PC. When you have your face-to-face with your prospective new coach, dig deep and ask yourself your level of comfort with this new coach vs. Coach Cooley whom you've known for years. Kris Dunn factor: You will have one of the best point guards in the country feeding you down low. Last year’s basketball team was flawed with a lack of shooting and guards, quite the opposite this coming year with all the new guards and a great situation for you. Jalen Lindsey will come on strong this year as well. PC star factor: You make it here, you will be a legend for years to come. You make it at a Kanas you’re one in a million. By know means should this be a decisive factor, but there is that lifetime relationship with a school deal to consider. Kansas-like blue blood programs: Visit one of these for sure, but stay away. You won’t know what that roster will look like until May of next year when the one and dones make their decision. With these schools you run the serious risk of having an elite one-and-done athlete take your time. If you’re that confident you’ll be that good (and I don’t rule that out you will be that good), then take the quickest path to the NBA and run (play at PC next year). If you really blow up, you could actually leave for the NBA next year (5-10% chance, but these are your expectations/goals I assume). 0% chance of NBA next year if you transfer. The grass is greener factor: You will see some absolutely great schools (rumor is Kansas is on that list). Make sure you separate what the student experience will be (not yours) vs. the athlete’s experience. The big-time athlete’s experience is very different and not unlike what you experienced at PC -- hard work, not going to parties, long hours. At the end of the day, it’s great to have the shiny facilities, etc, but it’s pretty simple, you play on a basketball court, play great competition, have good coaching, and the rest is up to you. New team: Maybe you want a new team as well. You will have a new team at PC plus a combo of great existing players (and seemingly nice guys) vs. the risk of all new guys. You have been one of the more popular players to arrive at PC of late and seemed so happy to be here. Go through this process -- visit a Kansas and a few others of different sizes/shapes, but don’t rule out PC. You will be embraced and welcomed back with open arms and you just might get to the NBA quicker. You may also earn the satisfaction and life lesson the good things that come when you stick with something to completion. You seem like a great kid and the reality is that you have a bright future any path you choose.

Two more things:
Sorry I don't trust Featherson or Featherton as far as I can throw him
And to be generous, we can't blame walk this time for a player leaving

I hope I don't come across poorly, dex. But you're too old to be on Twitter.
Having met Featherson, he seemed like a good guy.

I met him too before Chukwu was a Friar.
The whole thing stinks like a rotten fish.
You have 3 or 4 key players (employees if you will) in your business.
You have a ratio of one manager to each key employee....Umm sure sounds like enough to me.
...and you get surprised, again?
Might engender a few questions from a large donor or two IMO.
OR
Perhaps the answer is just that so many of these kids are kids and the parents are derelict.
or
Perhaps the programs that cheat will always have the upper hand.
What do you think Fr Shanley?

I believe Father Shanley should be quite proud of what his leadership has produced with more in the way.
10,000 student applications fir 1,000 freshman places in September, national championship in ice hockey, final 4 in soccer, another great year in cross country/ track with ncaa records and amother bunch of AA's.
Closing in on raising $140 M.
Business school doing great with a new building about to break ground. BB facility close to fruition. Road and property purchases leading to an integrated campus.
Survived the ESPN/Football power play at least for the next 7 or 8 years.
New track.
Soccer/lacrosse stadium and taking lacrosse to fully funded.
Yes basketball is a sewer but we won the BE, 2 NCAA apprearances, 20 win seasons.
Try to take a step back and let's see what the 2015/2016 results are.

Not that anyone cares, but this is the last time that I'm going to be opening up this string to read anything more on the Chukwu front.
I'm moving on from this
