It's unfortunate about Paschal and his old coach. He clearly doesn't know the game if he thinks that Paschal should have been a star last year. He played well in spurts and probably should have played more but there were also games where he completely disappeared and you forgot that he was in the game. He was a freshman learning how to play big time college basketball against guys his equal or better. Mr. Redgate should go have a talk with Kaleb Joseph and ask him about his experience at the Cuse and about his choice to go there. I bet if he could do it again he would have decided o go to PC or WVU. Hell he may not even be on the team in 2016-17.

"I do fault Cooley for being completely out of touch with Pascal, but it was obvious from the start that there other factors were in play here, highlighted by a lack of class and disrespect for coaches and teammates (and Kris Dunn specifically who passed up on millions of dollars to play with his teammates). " So Cooley was "completely out of touch" with Paschal (please use his properly-spelled name going forward)? I guess the complete coaching staff and the members of his team were also "completely out of touch" (I've been told by several players they this hit them out of the blue). I've heard Cooley speak privately to this young man and listened to him talk in glowing terms of Chukwu. Like a proud dad! Yes, this was the logic that I was using to make my statement. On the surface, there were no issues and everything was wonderful, but this was obviously not the case. Perhaps I can remove "completely" from my statement, but yes, IMO, out of touch with PASCHAL. I'm not even sure how this is debatable to be honest. It sounds like Mrs. Blair agrees with that statement too...

Actually it's not a joke...Heard it from....wait....people who know more than...YOU! Question...What do Cal, Pitino and Jim Boeheim have that Ed doesn't??? Bit of a stretch on there. I love confidence, but he needs to know his players. They need to trust him. Look, I love that he is our coach, but kids may be seeing something that you....even a self-identified "big-time donor" do not see...I have met Ed plenty. Perfect guy for PC. But he may be getting a bit distanced from his players. Batts and Cotton (almost), Fortune, and now Paschal Not seeing these last 2 coming has really hurt his teams. I thought same thing when Prime Time happened. Guys waited until next day to go beat on people.....no coaches got ANY wind of it? Problem. Barnes had a coach at dinner EVERY night with team. Ed doesn't know his players? Ed is getting distanced from his players? "Almost" departures of players Ed didn't recruit to PC are lumped in with players that actually left? Coaches don't eat dinner with the team? Wow, who knew? Must be a virus of some kind in college sports because each year hundreds and hundreds of kids do exactly what Fortune and Paschal just did, at programs all over the map. Yet, it's Ed? I don't buy it, not one bit. As I've said, he's an emotional guy, that's part of what gets kids to come here, it will also be part of why kids sometimes leave. Comes with the package (so does BE championship and back-to-back NCAA appearances). Kids are immature and looking for instant gratification and when it doesn't come (or doesn't come with touchy/feely) they look for the next crush. That's the reality. Not unique to Ed, he shouldn't be micro-evaluated and suggested that he's not plugged in. That's unfair, IMO. BTW, love that you sited a coach who had one foot out the door at his presser announcing his hiring at PC as a guy who was more engaged than Ed. Interesting to say the least.

Barnes had a coach at dinner EVERY night with team. 700 players transferred in D 1 this year. I assume in all or most cases their coaches had big heads and/ or were out of touch with their players. Henton said Coach helped him in BB and in life, Cotton prospered, Dunn stayed with the program etc. Two sides to everything. Many more players seem to have done well than not.

Good thing PC chose such a cheerful touchy feely guy like Boeheim.

I think that if one looked into it...a high percentage of the transfers are due to PT....I am concerned that Fortune and PC were to be starters, and Fortune was one already. So future PT was not an issue....AND both seemed to be a shock to program.
Look, we love the guy, but maybe, just maybe the kids in the program aren't as enamored anymore. Still shocked that with all the PT for a shooter last year, and a center this year, we have not been able to land one 5th year guy....either year.
Think Harris could have helped Kris Dunn next year? PT would not have been an issue.

We have our coach for a number of very expensive contract years.
If we have losing seasons we should begin to worry.
Otherwise thus is a big soap opera.

If the guy never opens his mouth to the coaching staff or players, and does not otherwise display outward signs of unhappiness at practice, etc., how was Cooley going to know? It just seems like, if he had a confidante at all, it was his high school coach. Chukwu stated that he was mostly concerned with his offensive game in going to Syracuse. And that's the one thing Redgate complained so much about. It just seems like the two of them, Chukwu and Redgate, must have had conversations like "you know Syracuse is good at developing big men", with none of this soul searching ever reaching the Friars or the staff. I blame Chukwu for this. Not for leaving. Not for deciding so late. But, for not talking about such concerns with the people who recruited you. Why could he not do that? Why could he not talk to Cooley. Why could he not talk to his teammates? That's what I don't get in the aftermath, with these revelations from both Redgate and Chukwu that it was all about developing his offensive game.
And how he could not see what this year with Dunn would mean for him is just beyond my comprehension. And Cooley would have brought all this up in his no doubt ardent arguments to Chukwu's common sense. To no avail. It's almost as if Redgate and Chukwu decided " let's keep our thoughts to ourselves, but Syracuse would be a much better place for you". These things should not have been kept from Cooley. Don't know how "out of touch" he might be, but talking to him was Chukwu's responsibility, and he passed on that.

Agree surprise at pick of Cuse given their present situation but again it fits given the way he departed here - as in makes little sense.
Thinking if he and his mentoring coach were as upset upset with his situation at PC as they now say it begs this question - Why not confront Cooley during the season he was here? Also find it quite strange how nobody on the team had any clue of his discontent - was he that distant from all of them? Main point is the method, motivation, then sudden movement to our obvious detriment. Hope for his sake he learns the value of being more open when hurting though.
No need to dwell further as he is gonzo - he will most likely progress into a fine player and have a decent shot at the next level...

Did cuse even recruit him the first time?....seems odd that Hopkins would be reaching out to this guy during the season if they hadn't....
