Not getting the "Duh" part... Is the fact the staff advised him to go elsewhere supposed to be a good thing? All the time and effort spent on him doesn't matter? That this is another of a number of years with a missing piece? 2 years ago a back up PG after the Kiwi adventure....a year ago the Fortune "surprise" and lack of a shooter....now the Chukwu "shocker" AND the Owens issue so virtually no size.... But don't say anything...."Coach is not allowed to be questioned"?? Obviously Owens was told to look elsewhere. No one gives up a BE ship for a Juco unless he has no choice. If PC kept this going and in Sept. He did not qualify this board would have once again ecploded. Ties were cut. If you are one of those who think Coach and his staff are stupid and that as a back seat driver you know how this all should be done than you would believe Owen just went away. We want players who can win big time, argue for all sorts of risky players then complain when a few do not work out. Makes sense.

I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand. Once coach seen that video of Alex and friends with drugs guns and liquor. It was a wrap about him not coming to PC. Coach has a reputation that he value more than some so called top 100 kid. He decided to cut ties it's not hard to see. Some of you crying about losing this top 100 kid some things are bigger than basketball. This whole jr co story is because nobody else wanted to roll the dice on him. I salute coach for not selling his soul to win.

I believe he had signed an NLI. As I understand it, a player can later ask to be released from this. If so, the team may or may not grant the release. Normally they do.
But can a team initiate the breakup process? I would think a signed NLI should protect a player from a situation where, for example, a team simply later finds someone they like better. But there must also be protection for the team if unforeseen circumstances regarding the player later crop up, such as what we have here, and then the team should be able to initiate the breakup.

If a player fails to meet clearinghouse requirements (such as ACT score) the NCAA then prohibits a college from honoring a schlorship offer. Therefore the player is released per NCAA rules. PC could try to prep him etc. If they wanted but they don't have to and it seems PC just told him to move on I do not believe you need a release to go to a lower level division.

No release needed if you don't qualify or can't be admitted to the school. The NLI becomes null and void.
