Great for Ed to be considered, and no doubt - the basis for additional exposure for PC in the process.
Having said that (and quite selfishly), I hope that Miller gets the nod as Head Coach. I'd like Ed to be able to focus some time on recruiting (especially until an able replacement for Simon is secured and in-the-field)and recharging his battery during the offseason.

Have we seen any benefit from eds association with this team yet?.... Would rather have him recruiting as well given the staffing situation...

Interesting solid comments - and a good question. Think most were very happy when he initially became involved for the exposure and since then he has (I guess) moved up the staff ladder - yet I think Miller from the higher profiled program will get the nod here. Our needs must come first and yes, Cooley needs to pace himself to guard against any additional health issues.
Beyond that initial program exposure, I am not sure what any direct value comes to PC from his involvement - perhaps some measure of recruiting exposure yet I think most of the actual players who are on this team are already set up...

I agree with the importance of Ed Cooley being on the recruiting trail this year with a change in our recruiting staff. But one advantage to PC is Ed Cooley gets to work with some great coaches( Donovan and Miller) and hopefully gain additional insights on coaching and practicing methodologies. I heard several times this year during Duke games that Coach K started using the zone at Duke the last few years after working with Boeheim on the Olympic Team staff.

It sounds nice that he is on the coaching staff but it hasn't paid off recruiting wise. Bob McKilliop from Davidson was a USA coach for years and it hasn't helped him win any big time recruiting battles either.

Good point on McKillop.
Guessing at least Ed will get a nice visit to Greece and have a chance to give Archie an earful on the whole Dayton home game set-up...

I bet everyone's pumped in FriarTown eh Its good for Ed personally, but the jury is out regarding its worth to the program. On a side note, I hope he has cash on hand because Greek banks may not open tomorrow and ATMs might likewise not function.

I'm sure you are all thrilled to know that Team Miller + 1 beat the Iranian juggernaut. Also comforting, in a perverse way, to know that the sport is as failed in Croatia as it is in the good old USA zagsblog.com/articles/u19s-open-world-championships-with-win-over-iran-croatian-star-bender-out-for-tournament/By JOSH NEWMAN Led by a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds from Josh Jackson, a trio of 2016 stars helped the United State Under-19 National Team overcome a slow start to defeat Iran, 83-53, Saturday morning to open the FIBA World Championships in Greece. Jackson, the No. 1-rated player in the nation according to Rivals.com, shot 8-for-14 and added four steals, while Harry Giles finished with 14 points and nine rebounds and Jayson Tatum added 12 points and seven rebounds. Giles and Tatum are rated second and third in the Class of 2016, respectively, by Rivals. The two sides were tied at 15 after one quarter, but a 26-9 second quarter helped put the United States in control for good in what was the the head-coaching debut at the international level for Arizona head coach Sean Miller. Miller took over the U19 national team after Billy Donovan left the University of Florida for the Oklahoma City Thunder. A prohibitive favorite to take home gold from this event, the United States will continue play in Group A Sunday morning against Croatia, which has been in the news over the last 24 hours. On Friday, Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress reported that Croatia will be without 7-foot-1, 17-year-old big man Dragan Bender over a sneaker dispute. Bender, projected as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by DraftExpress, is under contract with Adidas. Nike and Jordan Brand signed an exclusive 11-year deal with the Croatian national team (at every level, including all men and women’s teams). “They said to me, ‘If Dragan doesn’t use Jordan Brand shoes, he can’t play,” Bender’s agent, Maurizio Balducci, told DraftExpress Friday. “We are very sad. He wanted to defend the colors of his country, but it looks like commercial reasons are above sport reasons. I am so sad for all his teammates his coach. They did a great job during the past three weeks (preparing for the tournament).”
