Tennessee coaching list should be: Gregg Marshall, Chris Mack, Richard Pitino, Bobby Hurley Just to name a few who would you hire? Well apparently Chris Holtman from Butler was contacted today by Tennessee and there is mutual interest...what a blow that would be. I think if I am Tennessee, knowing that Texas is about to open up I move quickly on whoever I think I want. It might very well be Holtman. I would go with Chris Mack - look at Thad Matta and Sean Miller as former Xavier coaches doing very well at OSU and Zone, respectively. St John's is going to be interesting...I would go Mark Jackson, but apparently both sides do not like one another... Texas = Shaka Smart Pitino stays at Minnesota, Bobby Hurley takes St. John's (unless they are serious about Chris Mullin) and DePaul and Bama take whatever is left...but no dice on Greg Marshall. I think Danny Hurley wants Seton Hall. Could be a year away from that.

Bama was paying $1.8 mil and Tenn. $1.6 but Alabama said they may go to $3 mil. We may see Shaka Smart's name pop up again. Smart should get out of A-10 IMO. Mullin? will be interesting I guess edit: Jackson knows the game and shouldn't have a problem bringing in talent one would imagine. FWIW he didn't do to good in his attempt at coaching in the NBA I believe.

Smart has to leave before the phone stops ringing...
I could see Rick Barnes taking ASU if he really wants to stay in coaching.

Jackson's issue in the NBA was with management, not his coaching. Sounds like he has issues with the one's in charge at SJU too. One could surmise he just has issues with upper management wherever he goes, but I think he can coach and would bring in lot of talent to SJU..
....gotta love friartown...

Hurley is getting some love from the NY Media. Whether he is the one or not, I would suggest that he's a safer bet than bringing an untested Mullin in, and running the risk of tarnishing one or your storied alumns, should he be incapable of rebuilding the progarm. For the good of the Big East, I hope that SJU makes the right choice in choosing a successor to Lavin. Daily News suggesting that $$ could be an issue...then again, there's Vitaminwater! ".... The school’s financial situation could be an unwanted X-factor. St. John’s is cash-strapped with a cratering enrollment. It has been down-sizing departments with buyouts for about two years. It also owes Lavin almost $2 million, and there is nothing in the budget for paying a second coach. When it comes to money, St. John’s fans always look toward Mike Repole, who made his fortune with the Vitaminwater brand. But a coach’s salary isn’t exactly “what have you got on you?” money. And to place that expectation on one individual, no matter how much he or she loves St. John’s, might be asking too much. It shouldn’t come down to that...." www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/rubin-hurley-dan-hour-st-john-article-1.2165336?utm_source=Daily+News+2014&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=DailyNews_2014_From_201411172_668830&utm_content=20270770&utm_term=_668830_668854

Angst and concern at Seton Hall: www.nj.com/college-basketball/index.ssf/2015/03/danny_hurley_to_st_johns_would_be_more_bad_news_for_rutgers_and_seton_hall_politi_bits.htmlWe probably should start here: If Rutgers and Seton Hall don't start getting out of their own way soon, it wouldn't matter if St. John's hired one of Lou Carnesecca's old sweaters as its next head coach. These are two programs that were a combined 1-18 since the start of February, with significant player defections during (Jaren Sina at Seton Hall) and after (Junior Etou at Rutgers) the season. Clearly, they have bigger issues to solve before they can start worrying about who's coaching the dormant college basketball power across the Hudson River. Still, there is a good chance that the Red Storm will target Jersey-born former Seton Hall guard Danny Hurley to jumpstart its program. And that, quite simply, would be the worst-case scenario. Hurley, according to a source close with knowledge of his thinking, is "very intrigued" by the St. John's job but is not ready to jump at any offer. Rhode Island went 23-10 this season and has every impact returning, so there's a good chance that he would be leaving an NCAA Tournament team if he decided to take the job. But allure of returning home might prove too strong to resist. Certainly, if St. John's is smart they'll go after Hurley hard to replace Steve Lavin, because if his recruiting success at Rhode Island is any indication, Hurley the Red Storm's best chance to build a winner. That's the biggest concern for the New Jersey teams. Seton Hall and Rutgers are already struggling to get the top players to consider staying home. With Hurley setting up shop in Madison Square Garden, and with his Hall of Fame father still coaching at St. Anthony, that task will have just gotten much harder....... continued at link....

Good grab broadcaster - WOW talk about a revealing piece?
That the High School community in the City is yawning about Steve "No Show" Lavin speaks volumes as to his failing to 'connect" something you simply do not do in NYC as the head coach of St. Johns.
Most telling quote here?
“The new guy will already have done a better job [recruiting New York City] the minute he steps into a high school gym,” (an) anonymous coach said.
OUCH...

Most telling quote here? “The new guy will already have done a better job [recruiting New York City] the minute he steps into a high school gym,” (an) anonymous coach said. OUCH... I was listening to an interview on WFAN on Friday afternoon with a local basketball insider saying how one thing that always made St. John's NYC's team was that it seemed to always have guys from NYC. There was that connection with the players and coaches. That had been lost under Lavin. There is nothing wrong with national recruiting - if you can get the guys then get them. BEST part of the interview: "St. John's would always be in a local gym. They were there and they were saying 'you're coming to St John's because it's already your team with kids you watched play at your school or your friends' brother played here' and they had that ability to capture a local kid and tell them the big time was only a short walk or bus ride away." It's very similar to how it would be great to keep getting the local talent for PC, but so far TN, MI, FL, WI, CT, NH, NY, NC, MD, DE, VA, PA, CA, RI ...It's all over the place which is a good thing, but the only RI kid is Ledo and he never played.
